Will it be today?

My mom called last night. They don't really expect my dad to last through today. Right now our plans are to drive out there tomorrow (yes, over the mountains and through the snow) to support her and probably help with the funeral. What a sucky Christmas present.

He was doing really well until his 7th day of chemo, and then things have really gone downhill from there. He fell, he's bleeding internally again, and he is unaware of his surroundings. It almost seems better at this point for him to go than to have to suffer through this part.

My dad woke up much better today! The doctors are still concerned about him, but he seems to be more like himself. He is no longer bleeding internally, and his platelets are up (yea! This is GREAT NEWS!). Unfortunately, his liver seems to be failing, which doesn't mean he's out of the woods yet. We've decided to stay home until we HAVE to go (for a funeral or to help with the transition out of the hospital). He's still gravely ill, and could die any day. The doctors said they won't know much from day to day, and that things are still scary. We could end up spending Christmas Day on the road or at home. I don't even know if I should buy stuff for dinner.
