Here is my story..
My dad got colon infection Dec. 8,07 and they recommended he get an colonoscopy since he will be 60 this year and hasn't had one. So he went in on Jan. 23 and had one done. They found 3 polyps which turns out to be not cancer but pre-cancer I guess and they found a tumor the size of a tennis ball in his rectum.
Last Friday we had to go in and meet with the surgeon. She had dad do a ct scan to rule out stage 4 which we are happy to say is not stage 4. Now tomorrow we have to go in and do a MRI and ultrasound to find out if it's 1,2,3. If it's stage 1 we are doing surgery right away. If it's stage 2 we are doing chemo for 6 weeks and then rest for 6 weeks then surgery. If it's stage 3 we are doing chemo and radiation for 6 weeks and then rest for 6 weeks then surgery.
My dad thought he would be just going in and finding out sugery etc and when he came out it scared him so bad. I am an only child and I have one child myself.
They figure he has had the tumor for about 5 years. Dad thinks it's at stage 1 or 2 but I am not that confident.
He has been telling his friends and has been open about everything which is great.
Has anyone on this board dealt with someone that has had Rectal or Colon cancer??
This is very hard for me as it's different when it's a parent verses grandparent or just someone you know.
