Hello, all,
I'm trying to find some information and I was hoping that someone here would be familiar with prostate cancer and enlarged prostate problems... I'm having trouble finding the answers that I'm looking for elsewhere, and maybe what I really need are some other viewpoints on this, instead of just cut-and-dry medical facts. I'm sorry if this seems silly, especially since the biopsy hasn't even come back yet, but...
My boyfriend has had a history of frequent urination ever since I've known him (for over a year). To the point where sometimes it would be every 15 minutes, and it would be a chore sometimes to get the job done. I've been harping on him for a long time now that he needs to go to the doctor for a prostate exam, but since he's only 32, he would joke and say that he has time to delay "getting the glove of love". Most men don't begin getting prostate exams until around 45 or 50 apparently.
So, fast forward, and he tells me last night that about a month ago, he finally went to the doctor and he has an enlarged prostate. (I can't believe he kept it from me for that long, but I won't open that can of worms right now.) He apparently was taking medication for it short-term, since the initial exam when they found it, but he says that he doesn't need to take it anymore. According to him it's "JUST" an enlarged prostate, very common, nothing to worry about, etc. etc.
However, the doctor DID take a biopsy. From what I've read, this isn't a common procedure just for an enlarged prostate - they only do it when they suspect it could be cancerous. Would this be because of his relatively young age? The severity of his symptoms? Why exactly would a biopsy be taken if it was "JUST" enlarged? The results of the biopsy aren't expected for another two weeks.
The boyfriend isn't being very forthcoming about it because he says he doesn't want me to worry, but not knowing the specifics - like what meds he was on, why exactly they decided to do the biopsy, etc. - is making it all the worse for me.
My grandfather died of prostate cancer a few years ago, so maybe I'm getting too worked up about this??

Hi and welcome to the board.
Well I am not much help on this subject.
Although I'm sure my husband is older than your boyfriend, he too had an enlarged prostate that was checked regularly for close to 15 years.
