Lung cancer symptoms - towards the end

Hi Everyone,
Hello, so glad to see this board here. I'm an old-timer on iVillage, but haven't posted in many years. My dad has Stage 4 lung cancer which has spread to his brain. Doc says he's doing exceptionally well (he's a young 72) and says he may be around a bit longer than most patients with the same prognosis. Dad lives in California & doing really great right now. His wife died suddenly last year, so he is all alone & I have no siblings to help us out. I live in another state, but am moving back w/my DH next year (we'll be living with Dad). I feel rushed to get back & am already getting rid of stuff in my house.
I'm wondering if anyone here knows of any symptoms or situations that may arise later on - I've been doing research as well, but nothing really says what to expect as far as symptoms towards the end, type of care they'll need, etc. I just want to know what types of things to look out for, in case my Dad can't or won't tell me. It may be premature, but since I'm not with him right now, it makes me nervous. I'm also going to contact the social worker for her advice. Thanks so very much!

Welcome to the board.
I just wanted to send you my regards and support.
I lost my dad
Thank you both so much for your support. It's hard for me to imagine just how everything will map out at this point - all I can do is keep in close contact with him, and making plans to move back to be with him. I feel like I can't get back to California fast enough.
Good luck to you and your dad.
