Father's Lung Cancer Spread To Brain

My father was diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer in Feb 08. He has been doing chemo treatments ever since his diagnosis. He started to see some success, and the growths in his lungs, adrenal gland, and lymph nodes were even shrinking. This past weekend he was admitted to the hospital after a strange dizzy spell. Well after an MRI, I received the news that he now has 3 lesions on his brain. I know the stats for lung cancer are bad, but I still didn't expect this to happen so quickly. What makes things worse is that I live almost 3000 miles away, and have two children under 2...so travel is very difficult. I am visiting for a week in October with my 3 month old, and putting my 22 month old in daycare for the week. My question is, can anyone give me an idea of how much time he might have? I can't ask my mother, she knows it will be soon, but doesn't want to talk specifics. I don't have contact with his doctors, so I can't ask them. The reason I am asking is I want my dad to see both his grandsons again, but will need my husband to come with me. Should I plan something soon? Maybe another trip in Dec? From what I have read online, he could only have a few months, maybe less. Any advice would be appreciated. I am just so sad. I never thought I would lose my dad at only 30. And when I think of the fact that my children won't remember him, it just breaks my heart.
Thanks, Allison

I saw the title of your thread on the main page and had to come here to offer my support and advice to you.
Hi Allison,
I lost my mom this past year to lung cancer and was feeling anxious and sad about not being able to spend Christmas with her this year.
