Questions about bone cancer

My mother recently went to the emergency room for some pain she was having in her lower abdomen. They did a CT scan to rule out appendicitis. They also did some blood tests. They told her she didn't have appendicitis but there was definitely something she needed to speak with her regular doctor about. Three days went by and she finally got a call from her doctor. The doctor said there were sports all over her pelvis, spine, and sternum. He ordered another CT scan for her chest. He also said that the blood results came back and something was abnormally high. Her level was at 500 when normal levels should not be higher than 115. I can't remember what he said it was but based on those results he was suspecting some type of cancer. He also order more blood work. He said right now they don't know what is the cause. I'm curious as to if it is bone cancer what type is it? Or can it be lung or breast cancer that has spread? What type of specialist will they send her too? If this is indeed cancer does this sound like it is something that is treatable or does it seem like it is pretty far along? If so what do you think the options are? I wish I knew more but we won't know until we get the test results back. I just want to know what to expect and how to help my mother get through this. Thanks for any input.
