For those of you who have DSs and DDs between 4 - 7 mos. what time do they go to bed at night? What time do they wake in the AM? Do they wake up in the middle of the night? We are trying to get DS to go to bed earlier!

I have twin daughters who are 7 months old. They go to bed around 7 pm and wake up for a bottle between 11 and 1. They then sleep until around 6. This just started happening in the last week or so. Before that they were getting up twice during the night - 10 and about 2 or 4.

Wow! SO do you pump between the time they go to bed and that 11 - 1 bottle?

Sydney will be 5 months in a few days and has been sleeping for at least 8 hours for some time now (1-2 months or so). She slept 4-5 hour stretches after the first month or so, maybe a little less. She goes to bed about 8-8:30. We had been putting her to bed at 8:30-9 but she seems so sleepy that I've moved it up to 8 or so to see how that works. Last night was the first night and I put her down around 8 or 8:15. She woke up at about 5 for a bottle, took 3 oz. and went back to sleep. Then she slept until 9:15 or so.

She's a terrible napper so she's almost always sleepy in the evening, but she doesn't seem to have too much trouble becoming over tired and unable to go to sleep. I've heard that a regular evening routine can make bedtime easier (e.g., dinner, bath, story, bottle, bed).

That is great! so when do you pump? My DS will be five mos. next Thurs. He goes to bed too late! If you pump after your baby goes to sleep, what do you do with that ebm? Do you freeze or leave on counter and use in morning?

My four month old DD goes to bed at 7:00 (after bath and bottle). We wake her at 10-10:30 for a small bottle and then she usually sleeps till 7:00 am.

I pump three times a day - at 7:00 am, 2-3 pm, and just before bed. I always refridgerate unless I know I will be using that bottle in the next few hours.

I am down to pumping three times a day - when I wake up, early afternoon and 9 PM. I just can't bring myself to do it more than that anymore. I am on domperdine and my girls are getting about 70% bm and 30% formula. My short term goal is currently 9 months and long term goal is one year. I breastfed my ds for 18 months.

I definitely pump after she goes to bed, and I try to make it right before I go to bed. I'm at 4-5 times a day, usually twice in morning, once in afternoon, sometimes once in the evening (this is the one that's easiest to skip if necessary), and before bed.

If I think she'll be up within 8 hours or less of when I pumped, I'll leave the milk out. If not, I refrigerate. It kind of depends on my schedule. I'm trying to get to bed earlier, but that doesn't always happen.

Hi Melanie, Aidan is four and a half months and has been sleeping right through for 9 nights now! (Wooohooo!!!!!)

He goes down at 8.30pm....then up at 9.30 for a last quick feed (he hardly wakes) before sleeping through 'til 6.30am - another quick feed and change then he sleeps until 9am!

I'm not sure if this is exactly ideal for the long term but it is a routine that he has fallen into by himself.

It has been wondeful these past 9 nights not having to get up at 2 - 4am to feed him. And he decided to sleep through all on his own!

Thanks for all the good sleeping advice! I still let DS dictate the schedule - I am a big believer in "baby time". We will work on gettinghim to bed earlier!

You don't say if he's cranky at night or not, but I do know that sometimes babies are sleepy before they exhibit the overt symptoms (eye rubbing, yawning, etc.), and that sometimes it is harder to get them to sleep when they become overtired. Just experiment and see what happens. Remember that DS doesn't really know what's best for him and may seem wide awake because he's very stimulated, when he's really tired.
