How do you start weaning?

I go back to work on Monday and fortunately my coworker is lending me her pump so I can pump at work and leave it there (I have a very long commute with trains and walking). I use my best friend's pump at home but she is having a baby in March so I plan to return it to her the last weekend in Feb. Aiden will be 5 months old by then. So I've already decided that is when I will be done with pumping. He gets about 60% BM, 40% formula now and I'm fine with him getting 100% formula by the end of Feb.

In the beginning I only pumped 5-7 times a day and the last month or so I'm down to 3-4 times. When I start work on Mon I plan to pump 4 times a day - 6am, 11am, 4pm and 10pm. But I want to make sure I give myself enough time to wean. So if I need to be done the last week in Feb, how do I start? Do I start dropping to 2-3 pumps? Does it hurt? Now I get engorgement if I go more than 8 hours w/o pumping.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Stacey

If you get engorgement now after 8 hours, it's best to take it slowly.
