Gassy baby needs sleep?

7 week old DS can not get undisturb sleep because he wakes with gas and bowel movements. I tried mylicon(gas relief drop) but that makes him spit-up. He burps with no problem. It's just a bowel problem. I get 2 poopy diapers a day is that enough? Also, he poops in the bath, I assume it's because he is relaxed.

Any tips on getting him to sleep longer at night? He's up every 2-3hrs.

Try Super Catnip & Fennel herbal gas drops...they work wonders! Also, check with your pediatrician about him pooping in the tub.

My pediatrician does not recommend doing this! Our parents were told to do this (and I'm told it does work) but it is very easy to cause rectal damage from using the thermometer too often or moving it around too much to try and coax the gas out. Young ones are colicky. It is just their bodies getting used to digesting food and it will go away. I know it is VERY difficult to get though those early weeks, but try and burp your baby after every feeding and rub his/her tummy gently in a clockwise direction to stimulate the bowels to move. (oh, and also, pulling baby's legs toward their chest can help their little bottoms open up to let gas out)

I know this sounds sick but it worked for my sister-in-law. When her son was cranky and consitpated, gassy and not nice. What her mother told her to do was... put a retal therometer in his butt and let some of the gasses out (as well as help him poop!). I know it doesn't sound pleasant, but after watching him fart and poop he was a happier boy. Now my sister-in-law didn't do this all the time, just when it was unbearable...

Hi Qui, most babies that young do not sleep longer than 2~3 hours at a time. As far as his bowel movements go, it sounds pretty normal to me. You may want to try giving him some chamomile tea or homeopathic chamomile tablets (they dissolve in the mouth) as that may help with his gas. But remember that gas is also normal as babies are developing all the good flora in their intestines to handle the food. Good luck and things should settle down soon.
