Let me begin with a resounding HOLY CRAP, for any of you who haven't done hot yoga. And let me take another drink of water before I go on.
I went to a bikram yoga session this morning - it's 90 minutes inside a 105-degree room, and it burns a ton of calories, is super low-impact, and works basically every muscle in your body!
I thought I'd feel sick from the heat, maybe it'd make my asthma worse... nope! I feel SO GOOD!
My knee has been hurting a lot lately, not sure if it's an injured tendon/ligament or if it's just Fibro pain. Sometimes it's hard to tell, ya know? =)
Anyway... we did a ton of yard work all weekend. I was totally wiped out by the end of it. My sis-in-law, who lives just up the road, found a good deal on a Bikram studio nearby ($10 for 2 weeks, unlimited sessions!), so she went Monday, said it was awesome. We both went this morning.
If you haven't done it, I highly recommend it! Honestly, I've been in a pretty constant flare-up since about mid-January, thanks to excessive stress and grief. I feel about ten thousand times better today than I have in recent memory, you guys. I swear, I feel like I'm 16 again!
It is definitely warm, and they make you bring a big towel to lie/stand on, and you should have a ton of cold water there... but overall, it's not as hard as I thought it'd be. You'd think oh, man, yoga in 105 degrees, that's gotta suck! Oddly, it makes the poses easier. I had to sit out one pose because my knee was just not cooperating and I knew if I wobbled it too much more, it'd snap and I'd be hurtin', so I got to lie back for about 2 minutes and relax a little.
Overall, I feel amazing. I didn't eat anything this morning before the session - you're supposed to go on an empty stomach. I have to drink lots of extra water today, to flush out the gunk, but oh man... if I weren't made of jello right now, I'd be up for a day hike! =)
