Phone problems

We have a great phone that I love, with 2 handsets. Unfortunately, one got wet and doesn't work properly anymore. So I am looking for another phone. I know that is going to be at least $40 - $50, IF I can find a factory refurbished one.

More recently, something happened to our internal phone lines. None of the outlets in the house work. We have charter for our phone service, and I can plug the phone directly into the box and it will work. Not convenient, since it is in our basement storage area, however I can charge and check messages elsewhere. BUT, I can't use my fax machine. I did some research and it seems like it is a tedious job to find out where the problem is, but once we find it, it should be easy to fix. I can't bring myself to pay someone to repair something i could do myself!! DH and I just need to set aside a time to search and repair. That is the frugal flop part - that I have to take time out of work to accomplish this.
