Some rookie, cheapskate parent decided to save $1 on markers (yes, they were a dollar cheaper than washable, locally), and sent NON-WASHABLE markers to the communal Kindergarten supply.

Have you tried either rubbing alcohol or hairspray on the ink stain.

I haven't attacked the stains yet; I'm still working on getting it off the kid.

You could also try soaking both in whole milk. You will have to soak/rinse/soak for a while, but it should get the stain out. And make sure it's whole milk. The enzymes break down the ink.

I'm sorry that parent was so silly.

I would consider visiting the classroom talking to the teacher

and requesting to removoe all the non-washables from the supplies.

Could have been an honest mistake. Many, many times I have grabbed something off of the shelf...thinking it was what I wanted, and when I look at it later - it's not. Usually this will happen when what I want is on the same shelf, and the package looks almost identical. In my haste I just assume and grab. Sometimes people put things back in the wrong place, and I wind up grabbing the wrong box because it looks close enough to the one I think I am buying. The offending parent might not have realized the markers were not washable. I know this doesn't change the situation, but it would make me less angry to think that it wasn't someone being inconsiderate.
