Hmm... it sounds like you shouldn't play with those kids.
I think people spend differently when they are on vacaction in general.
It's very possible that they, like you, came home and went "OMG, I can't believe how much money I spent!

Oh I hear you!
Wow, $40 for lunch is pretty rich for my blood, but I think what would make me mad is what you got for the cost.
I totally love The Cheesecake Factory, but DH and I go there as a treat and each take our leftovers home since their portions are so big and I end up with usually six meals out of our original two, LOL.
I know I am crazy on VK too...... I actaully was the one that said I only want to eat out 1/pizza the next night there plan was to eat out 3 lunches and 3 dinners.....it is just who they (actaully 1) are.
I have to admit that I'm a horrible spender when I'm on vacation or on a trip. I don't know what it is, but I just lose all sight of being frugal. When I plan the trip, I will plan with the best intentions -- meals at the hotel, cheap lunches and one nice dinner out. When reality sets in, I'm eating out for every meal and not giving a hoot how much it's costing me.
Now. I am a low maintenance person in real life. I really am. I don't need nor want expensive things - including food. But, when I'm on vacation I totally treat myself and sometimes go a little crazy.
I've never eaten at the Cheesecake Factory (we don't have one around here), but wow -- that's a lot for one person's lunch. Even for me. Even on vacation.
I will tell you that I think in some cases when a group of men or women go on vacation together there are some that feel the need to "show off" their money to the others. I know there's a girl in my group that insists on "showing off" to all of us. She always wants to run things so we can do the stuff she enjoys - basically the expensive things. Perhaps that is part of what went on with these girls? Trying
