My husband seems to think we should pay the same amount as what the kennel charges, but I disagree.

do you have someone in mind, have you talked to them about how much they expect?
Have never hired a dog sitter but two of my DDs do it quite often. I think the going rate that they get is $15-$20 per day (the higher rate for more than one pet). They do not eat the employers food, they take their own.
DD2 is actually house/dog sitting over Christmas break which puts a bit of a wrinkle in Dh and my plans, we are planning to go out of town ourselves for a couple of days and was hoping she could set for us.
People bring their dogs to me.
