*blushes* umm...never? OK, but I have a good reason! IMO most of the time the books are the same thing as whats being said on the shows, the internet, the radio, the magazines etc. And I do watch Dave Ramsey and Suze Oreman all the time. I'm sure there are great life changing books out there but
Read this book last week: Made from Scratch:Discovering the Pleasures of a Handmade Life
Favorite authors: Dave Ramsey I think his radio show has really helped dh get on board with frugal living. Dh was raised with the mentality that if you have a cc, you can buy what you want. I was raised that if you don't have the money, don't buy it, the exception being a house.
Amy Dacyczn: Tightwad Gazette
Reading David Bach now, but haven't read enough yet...
Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey
Choosing Simplicity by Linda Breen Pierce
I recently reread 'The Smartest 401k Book You'll Ever Read.' It is a short book, with basically 1 message which is that 401k's are faulty investment vehicles and that the best way to invest in one is in low cost index funds based on your personal risk tolerance.
Not sure it's worth buying, but for anyone with a 401k, who doesn't love the management end of it, it is definitely worth reading. The book is very easy to read and understand, though he does tend to repeat himself. I figure the book probably paid for itself, the information is useful- especially the risk tolerance worksheet. He also covers 403b's and IRAs in the book.
Definitely not as convoluted and hard to understand as a lot of investing books.
Last time I read a book like that was 20 years ago, in college. I have an accounting degree, and personal finance was a required course.
The Tightwad Gazette (falling apart from rereading)
The Automatic Millionaire
Total Money Makeover
Your Money or Your Life
America's Cheapest Family
The Millionaire Mind
The Millionaire Next Door
I've also read the Suze Orman books, but find them somewhat overwhelming. The first 3 books on this list are my favorites.
mom to Maggie and Andrew
The only 2 books I have ever read was Dave Ramsey TMM, and complete budgeting. That was a couple of years ago. Not my thing. :)
