I posted this idea before buried in a post but starting 1-1-2009, how about a coupon challenge to save money for holiday 2009.

That's a great idea--if I used more coupons, lol! With shopping at Aldi's and using store brands of most everything, I do not use very many coupons. Our gift-giving would be pretty slim if I only relied on that. I have to budget a monthly amount for all of our gift-giving including holidays, birthdays, graduations, weddings, whatever.
But the extra set back from whatever coupons I do use would probably come in handy. Not sure how comfortable I'd be asking the cashier for the $$ back though. So I'll probably just set the amounts aside--that will give me twice the savings!
