I know it isn't very frugal of me, but I'm at the end of my rope with the house cleaning!

I just started with my SIL cleaning my bathrooms, twice a month for $20 each time. We start next week and we'll see how long it takes, and whether we are both comfortable with that dollar amount for the time/energy amount. She lives next door, so there is no transportation costs.

Around here, it's not unusal for housekeepers to charge a flat going-to-your-home charge, and then a cleaning charge.

Frugality isn't about being cheap, or living as cheaply as can be.

It's about using our resources wisely. There comes a time when it's a WASTE of time and energy to be cleaning our own homes.

For me, I've already had TWO heart attacks. It's time to use my other resources (money, a renewable resource) to spare the additional strain on my heart (a NON-renewable resource).

I think it really depends on the size of your house-especially the bathrooms.

Not sure what the going rate for maid service is. I see ads all the time for like Merry Maids or The Maids that they are hiring. They never list the wages offered. I would think 10-12$ an hour is fair. But it also is based on how dirty your house gets. What sort of cleaning chores will they do for you.

We're in the midwest and pay $65 every two weeks for:

cleaning the kitchen (counters, sink, microwave), vacuuming or mopping all the first floor rooms (about 2000 sq. feet), cleaning 2.5 bathrooms (toilets, showers, floors, sinks - everything). She also does a little laundry - the towels and washcloths from the kitchen and bathrooms.

It's worth every penny to me!
