We've moved to a new house and we will be paying water and electric but no gas. At our old house we paid electric and gas, no water. Wondering what to expect to pay for water, and is having all electric cheaper than paying for electric and gas?

that will depend on if gas is cheaper than electric or the other way around. My gas and electric come in on the same bill, and gas is cheaper. You can call the utilities companys and ask what the last people paid. They will probably give you a cumulative total, like for the past 3 months or something like that. But it will help you figure out what to expect. They might also only give you the highs and lows, and that helps, too.

tha'ts going to depend on tons of factors... here are gas is more expensive than the electric so our winter bills are higher. water here is about 150 every 3 months but our old house different state was only 25 a month tops

Also, the water bill will depend on if you're on a septic system, OR if you are on city sewer. We are on a septic, but the folks in town pay sewer bills that are combined with the water. And, the city sewer is 1.5 times the water bill.

I would gag at a $50/month water bill! Mine is about $8 a month if I run the sprinklers almost every day. Maybe because I'm sitting on an aquifer? I dunno. My power/gas bill runs close to $200 in the winter when I'm being frugal. It's less in the summer because I don't have AC and I hang my laundry out so my dryer rarely runs.

It's interesting how different utilities cost from area to area.

I always thought electric was cheaper than gas so I'm surprised to read that someone says gas is cheaper there.

I like someone's suggestion to call and ask - but take it with a grain of salt. Everyone's usage varies, but it should give you some sort of an idea.

Utility prices fluctuate so much. In the township I'm in, I pay for water by the 1,000 gallons, and it roughly totals $30 per month. The city I work in is MUCH more expensive (like 2-3x as much). My husband's grandparents live in another state and mentioned they pay per gallon of water, and they pay like $100 every 3 months (so roughly what we do), but I'm certain they use much less water than we do. So it's hard to say.

Do you know anyone that lives near you and could give you an idea?

You would stroke out at my water/sewer bill...it averages $80/month, but ranges from $60-$100.

my sewer bill is $42 every month and doesn't fluctuate, so maybe that's the difference? It's a totally separate bill.

Your utility bill also depends on how well things are insulated, and the energy efficiency of what you have now.

Many moons ago when I was a young single apartment dweller I lived in one apartment complex (brick exterior, 2br/1bath) where my

O...M....G!!!! I can't imagine paying that much for water! I live in the DC area, which is very expensive in very many ways but our quarterly bill averages $75-80 depending on the season and sometimes less than $70!

As for the water quality - we swear by our Brita pitcher.

I'm with Kay on the water bill....ours is usually $200/per quarter...then my sewer bill is based upon the water bill so it too is high. And higher than the water bill. It makes me sick to pay it. I cannot seem to get the water bill down. The lowest it's been is $160ish. Although my gas bill was $39. last month which is pretty low for us.
