How long do I pay for screwing up?

Well, just as I was getting things under control, the holidays and PMS hit at the same time. I've caught myself mindlessly eating BAD stuff (chocolate and cookies) in the evenings - sometimes when the PMS hits, the chocolate cravings are impossible! So for about a week, even though I'm eating well during the day, the evenings have been bad, and the BG numbers have been HIGH.

I just re-started the South Beach diet this morning. Did all the menu planning, grocery shopping and some meal prep last night. So far today, I've had 10 grams of carbs, yet my BG was 278 2 hours after breakfast. Could that be a residual from last night?

If you make a dietary blunder, how long do the sugars tend to stay elevated? I'm drinking tons of water, trying to flush my system.

BTW - I'll soon have a solution to the evening eating issue - I'm moving my horse to a new barn with an indoor arena, so I can start riding after work again. I won't be home with food close at hand. Of course, the junk food being in the house is a huge issue. My sister (who is diabetic, but under control) buys all this junk food. When I've asked her to either hide it from me, or not buy it at all, she gets whiney. Yes, I should be responsible for what goes into my mouth, but noone in our home needs this stuff - she needs to lose about 200 lbs and my mom could lose 50. She's very passive-aggressive, and I wonder if she insists on bringing junk into the house just to sabotage me. OK - enough of THAT rant - LOL - I didn't start this post to #itch about family dynamics! But if feels good to vent nonetheless! ;-)

Hugs to all!

Diane

Donna,

The blood sugar threshold varies from diabetic to diabetic. But let me give you some quidelines. You need to report to your doctor any blood sugars under 80 and over 300. 400 and above you need to seek immediate medical treatment. I would say the same thing for any blood sugars 60 or less. If you are experiencing such low blood sugars you need to have glucagon around and other members of your family need to know how to administer it. A blood sugar of 40 really needs a 9-1-1 phone call. What you need to do is to learn the symptoms

No Mary ya haven't scared me. Umm I have frequent low blood sugar levels. But lately I have been a good girl! I have been eating like I am suppose to. I do have my bad days though. Its like I say no to sugar where ever I go. I see sugar and an automatic no forms from my lips before I can get it out! LoL I know it it does to me. I have had a 40 not long ago ( month ) and it scared me. Yea the dizziness and its mostly a headache. I can tell when it goes below 80. I my forehead starts to tighten. forming a headache. I wasn't listening to my body at all. I was stubborn to. But now that I know what I have I learn to listen to what my body is telling me. when I fell anything different I take my test. I recommend a fanny pack with snacks and carbs (good). Also if you go on a trip or go to yard sales take the fanny pack and wear it.
