I found out 2 days before Christmas that I have type 2. Not I can't say that I am surprised about this at all.I have been dealing with diabetes off and on my whole life. My grandmother had it and we lived with her for many years well until she died when I was 12.
She had a set of twins that had it and they both took insulin and were also type 2. We found out about 6 years ago now that my DH has type 2 also. So I am a pro at the meal planning and the medications. Until we moved in with my dh's sister and there is a type 1 diabetic. Insulin dependent I might add. So then we add learning to give insulin and all that good stuff.
I am trying to figure out why in my 30's I would get it but I had warning signs that really hit me hard. I called the doctor and told them to get off their buts and get me in before the holidays because I wasn't going to risk something happening Christmas day. The day after Christmas I went back and they had the results of my blood work. Pretty fast work there.LOL
Doctor was a bit surprised that I noticed the warning signs and took my DH's blood machine and tested my blood. I caught it early but my a1c numbers are out of control. Normal is between 4 and 6 and I am sitting up at 9.8
Not like this hasn't been going on for months and I just discovered it all. I am going to see a doctor that deal with diabetes and she also sees my dh too. But all of the classes that I have sat through with my DH I now have to sit through again.. Boring but I guess I have no choice in the matter now..
Thanks
tina

Hi and welcome to the board.
Hi Tina, welcome to the board! I am one of the community leaders for this board who has been type 1 for over 28 years now and on a insulin pump for over 6 years. I'm sorry you were diagnosed, but so very glad that you knew the warning signs and got checked right away. It sounds like you have a lot of experience with diabetes with having so many people close to you that are diabetic. I'm also so happy to hear that you have done the classes with your DH, which is great due to the fact that living with a diabetic it is so vital to know everything you can about the disease and you do know so much now. Although I feel for you having to sit through the classes once again, but you never know what new things they might introduce you to and also make your DH go with you to those since you did accompany him to his classes.
Well,
