Hi everyone, I was just diagnosed with diabetes on wednesday and I have a few questions. I am not able to see the endocrinologist or dietitian until febuary and since its sunday I can't get ahold of my regular doctor. Has anyone experienced abcesses or lumps under your arm? The past few years i have been getting them off and on and last april I had one so severe that I had to go to the ER. They lanced it, it was very painful, and they basically said it was an infected hair. The thing is, is that I keep getting them over and over, so i think that there may be more to it. Right now i have a really bad one under my right arm that is painful to the touch. Do you think it may be related or is a complication to diabetes? Please help.

Your not alone with this one. I too have this problem off and on, which I was told by my Endocrinologist that it isn't diabetic related and that some people have this happen to them. He said that it is usually an in grown hair or a hair that is infected due to it being in grown and to just have my husband take a clean sterile needle to lance it open to pull the hair out of it and drain it until he does see some blood that way we know that anything that was building up in there is all out. Granted I am no doctor by any mwans, but this is what my doctor told me and I am just passing it on to you. He also suggested not shaving under there so often so that the hair has a chance to come out instead of being cut to early leading to it being blocked from ever coming out like it should, which I have done and have not had this problem as often now. I am sorry you are going through this and really hope that you fine dome relief for the pain it is causing you. I hope you can get a hold of your doctor on today to get some help with it and make it not so darn sore like they tend to get. Do let us know what you find out and how it gets treated, because it may be of some help to others who experience this like you and myself do. Take care and try to have a great day!

I was just diagnosed with type 2 in November, but have had cysts since jr high. Here is what I was told to do:

I used to get abcesses under my arms quite often when I was in Jr. High and high school. My doctor told me that they are clogged pores that get infected. (either by shaving/ingrown hair or deodorant) I was told to not shave as often, change deoderant to a deoderant that did not have an anti-perspirant in it and to wash daily with Dial soap (anti-bacterial soap). Ever since, I have been cyst free (9 years).

Good luck and let us know what your doctor says.
