Okay here is my problem.. With my diabetes and all I understand that but I have a bigger problem. I for years have been on the go and eating one meal a day. While I know this isn't good I need to learn how to start eating properly. Looking at food sometimes makes me sick to early in the morning and I am up 5 days a week at like 5:30 am.. I know eating right is a big thing but I need to know how to train my mind and body to eat like I should?

Thanks for any and all ideas

Tina

Maybe start by setting a timer to go off every 3 hours and you can eat a small meal/snack. I would start reducing what I ate at that one meal per day and work towards distributing those calories evenly throughout the day. You didn't mention what time of day you eat that meal though. If you don't normally eat breakfast, start with adding something then. I didn't eat breakfast from my early teens through my late 30's, but started doing it when I wanted to lose weight. I have a 'uniform' breakfast every day the same thing b/c I don't like strong odors in the morning- I have cereal and milk at 6:30 am. Then I have a piece of fruit and some peanut butter crackers during my morning break at 10:30 am. Lunch follows kind of close at 11:30 am, but I don't have any power to change the morning break or lunch time, so I have half a plate of salad or 'free veggies', 1 starch and 1 meat choice. I have another snack at 3 pm, usually some more peanut butter crackers b/c I usually am still at work and have to eat on the run. Late afternoon is my worse time, I am usually HUNGRY like a bear, and my blood sugar is dropping and I get a little shaky feeling. This is the time I have to keep busy to keep from eating EVERYTHING I can get my hands on until my dh and family get home. I don't start dinner until they get here b/c I can snack through an entire dinners worth of calories! We usually have a big green salad, meat and a vegetable or I have a frozen meal- if I am alone b/c I can't overeat with one of those! I have another snack before bed when I take my medications. I know I need to cut down on the snacks, but I think I would rather take some of my carbs at meals and move them to the extra snacks. I hope others have some help for you too. Remember you want to aim for an 'even' daily blood sugar, and if you are only having one meal a day, you will not be able to accomplish that. Also if your body feels like it doesn't have enough glucose, you may experience a 'liver dump' when I believe the liver dumps all the extra glucose it has made all at once into your system b/c it senses you don't have enough. As diabetics, we don't need the livers help, we have enough glucose in our blood already! LOL A lot of times this happens in the early am when we have been without food for a long time. I had this happen to me when I was at my sil's house last month. She served a big meal at 2 pm, and then didn't fix anything for dinner for us. My dh finally went into her kitchen at 9:30 pm and fixed me a chicken sandwich b/c I had the shakes and my bs was 101.(which was really low for me at the time). It didn't help b/c when I woke up the next morning around 9 am (their dog barked most of the night and I had a hard time sleeping!) my blood sugar was 183 that morning with out food. Michele H.

Well Tina, I am like you and don't care to eat breakfast so eary in the morning. How ever I do eat my breakfast on the later side when I am not so sickened by food, which I have made my meal plan based upon this. I suggest that maybe you talk to your doctor about working out some kind of plan for eating later in the day, but also speak to a dietician who can help you out with a meal plan that would work best for your life style. It isn't so much as training your mind and body, but to have

Hi Tina,

I was the same way. I am hypogloxcemia and eating is very important. I would eat 1 meal a day and usually that made me sick. so in the mornings I would force myself to eat a piece of toast. ( after I was diagnosised)
