1st low BS scare.....

I was diagnoed with T2 daibetes in October and am managing to slowly get my BS numbers down with diet, exercise and 2 meds, avandia and amaryl. They are starting to come down slowly and I am glad. I have never had a scare with BS levels being to low...until today.

What a odd out of body feeling it is. I knew something wasn't right and when I tested my BS it was barely at 50. Luckily I had a soda and some cheese and crackers and it was in the right range again in moments. It made me realize that I MUST carry something with me in case this happens when I am alone. It also made me realize that going 6 hours without eating is a BAD idea (it was not intentional by any means).

So I continue to learn as I go. I hope I can get this nailed down to a science by the fall as we are hoping to start to try to conceive late this year. My doc is advising me to start on insulin a month or so  before TTC so I can learn to manage with insulin instead of oral meds. Both he and I agree that I do not want to be on any oral/non natural meds. I would rather go the insulin route.

So I guess I just needed to get this down as it was a scare and I am glad it happened at home so I know the feeling and can be better prepared.

Michelle,

Low BS can be scary and im sorry you had to experience it, but I am very happy to hear you were at home and got your BS back up into a good range. Me being type 1 I have trouble adjusting my insulin at times and I go too low. You are smart to start to carry something and it is just WONDERFUL eating something and not taking any insulin or worrying about your BS shooting way up. I am glad you are okay and feeling better. Take care of yourself... Have a good week :)

Michelle, I am so sorry you went through this and so gald that it happened while you were at home. Good for you in checking your blood sugar and getting something in to you right away especially with very good choices. It sounds like you have a good plan of always having something with you at all times, because you never know when this may happen again and I really hope it never happens to you again though. Don't you just love that wonderful feeling of having no control of your own body (NOT)! I think that is the one thing I hate the most of having a hypoglycemic reaction of not being able to help myself when it is way low, which scares me so terribly. Please do keep something with you at all times, because when this occurs you never know if there is a place to get something to treat this problem and if not you can't always know when you will come across a place to get something to treat it as well. Do take care of yourself and don't go to long with out eating like you did that time, because you don't want to go through that again if at all possible. Have a great day!
