I have a question, mostly out of curiosity :P, are you taking any supplements and if so what and how do you think it is helping you. Recently, I started taking Chromium...I know that it is said to help with Type 2 diabetes, but I wanted to see if it would help me in any way (I'm type 1). The first few days I noticed my bs levels seems more level and there were less spikes. However, it's really hard to tell the cause and effect of it all. I can't pinpoint if the Chromium was the reason for more even bs levels or if it was a change in my eating habits, exercise, horomones, etc...you get the picture. I like to believe it had a little bit to do with it. Lately, my levels have been back to where they were...basically all over the place, so who knows.

Just wanted to know if anyone else is taking this too, or anything else and what is working for you.

HI Andrea: I was wondering why you are taking Chromium? Did your Dr. suggest it? What is it supposed to do for you? I have been recently taking Spectrum 29(multi-vitamins). It does contain Chromium 25mcgs. which I guess isn't much. I am normally a night owl, but I noticed since I've been taking these Vitamins that I've been getting to bed at 9:00 p.m. for me which is Way outta my bed schedule(tonight I stayed up 'cause we had lots of company). But it didn't change my blood sugars any. But this is alot less than you are probably taking. I also take cod-liver oil pills from october to may. I don't think taking a Multi-vitamin would hurt anyone since most of us are lacking in some minerals or vitamins Sorry specifically Chromium I don't know. I am Type 1 also. It could be a change in your diet, exercise etc. if you have changed anything. Well, you know HORMONES they make us change the way they want to...like Mother Nature. LOL!!

Sorry, can't help ya there........***Carlie*** :)

Hi Andrea, I take a prenatal vitamin, E 1000IU, C 500mg, and an extra two 1 mg of folic acid. I use all these due to my doctor suggesting them for me with my having a super weak immune system, which it has helped me not to get any sever colds or have one long if I do happen to catch one.

I appreciate you both responding to my question. I guess I posted it mostly out of curiousity...I wanted to see if it was helping anyone by taking vitamins, herbal supplements, or other kinds of supplements. I guess I am willing to try whatever if it's going to help my health in anyway. It's not that I am doing terrible, but I feel that if there's something out there that can help, why not try it. I think Carlie asked me why I was taking Chromium, to answer your question...I have read a lot about it in Diabetic Magazines and online and wanted to try it. I think it was recommended for Type 2's, not so much type 1's, but I figured that if I have any sort of insulin resistance it might help me be more sensitive to the insulin. I do feel that it has somewhat helped me, but like I said...who knows if it's that or if it's me being more conscious of my eating hebits, exercise, or some other reason.

Anyway, thanks again for writing back. I'm going to continue with it and see how it goes. I would be interested in what Mary Frances has to say about taking supplements as a Diabetic. I know she has a lot of medical knowledge. Hopefully, she will be able to post soon! :)
