symptom question

I'm a 44 year old woman and I have been having what I think may be symtoms of diabetes. But nothing fits into a nice little "symptom" niche. I'm about 35 lbs overweight and 15 of those have been put on in the last two months as I am always hungry, always. I don't get up to urinate at night and I am not excessively thirsty. My legs have been twitching when I am laying down, my fingers get numb and tingly and this morning I woke up with vision that was blurry for about the first 1/2 hour upon waking. This is what prompted me to look up possible problems on the internet. I will call my doctor on Monday but is there anyone who can enlighten me, are there specific symtoms that are absolute. Do any of these things sound like possible symptoms of diabetes? I have an uncle with diabetes but that is it. Is there any way to test other than a lab test? Thanks for "listening"

I personally had symptoms that did not fit in to a nice little symptom "niche." It really just depends on the person I think. Definitly a change in vision is a cuase for alarm. Do see your doctor, and unfortunatly the only way I know of for testing does involve drawing blood, at the least a finger prick in the doctors office could determine a problem, if the glucose levels are high enough, that I think depends on how the doctor choses to handle the situation.

Goodluck

Katie,

Who can say if what you are experiencing is symptoms of Diabetes or something else. The only one who can diagnose you is your doctor and I would suggest making an appointment as soon as possible. Usually our gut feeling is right, and if it's telling you that something is wrong, then please get it checked out. I had a feeling that there was something wrong for a while and then I suddenly was exhibiting all these symptoms and not too much later I was diagnosed as a Type 1 diabetic. It might be that you are totally healthy, and I certainly hope so, and then you can put your mind at ease. But if there is something going on, it's much better to catch it early than to wait.

Good luck. I hope that things turn out ok and I hope you will let us know.

Take care,

Andrea
