Question about results

I have been having recurrent yeast infections after my period for 4 months and my PCP tested my glucose level. This was not a fasting glucose, she just had the blood drawn when I came to the office in the afternoon. The result was a blood glucose of 124 whiwhc they said was slightly elevated. She is doing a A1C and I should have those results on Monday. Should I ask for a fasting glucose test? I'm not overweight, a fairly healthy eater, but heavier on the carbs than is probably recommended. I'm not as active as I used to be, but I'm not a couch potatoe either.

Thanks for your input.

Well, I am fairly new to this stuff, but when my PCP first checked my Glucose, it was not elevated and they told me nothing was wrong, but I knew something was wrong, I had been having the same symptoms for 8 months. Even my A1C levels were not high. I finally insisted on the fasting test and thats when we finally got answers. I think it was a little far to have to go, but if everything else is normal and there is no other cause for alarm, then the fasting test may show some insight.

Goodluck,

Dianne,

Your doctor probably knows what she is doing. I would think the A1C should be sufficient, b/c it is basically a 3 month report card of how your blood sugar is behaving :) Hopefully it will be in range and you won't have to worry about it. At 124 it doesn't sound like it is wildly out of control, it might mean eating a little better and exercising a little more regularly. It sounds like you are already have way there, so it doesn't sound like you need to do too much more to improve things.

I hope things turn out all right. Please keep us updated.

Take care,

Andrea

Hi Diane and welcome to the board. I am one of the community leaders for this board who also has been a type 1 for over 28 years and who has been on a insulin pump for over 6 years. Your blood sugar should be at 120 or lower 2 hours after meals is what my doctor tells me and is a way of checking for diabetes, because a persons body with out the disease will put out more insulin to keep the body in a good level to where a person with diabetes body doesn't do that for them. I think your doctor just thought you needed to be checked to see what your HbA1c is at with this blood sugar you had that afternoon, but your blood sugar level was just that only slightly elevated. Don't worry to much about it at all and just wait to see what your HbA1c is at when you get that result back, because that is the true test to see if everything is ok with you. Do let us know what you find out, because we will be wondering about it. Do take care and have a wondeful day!
