Low Blood Sugar?? (m)

First of all, some background..I was gestational diabetic in all four of my pregnancies.I delivered my daughter on November 19th 2003...I *thought* the diabetes was gone...just like all the other pregnancies..it had always went away afterward...I have had no high sugars but I have been having seriously low sugars from absolutly nowhere..all day yesterday I was terribly hungry and I ate all day long and then around 9:00 I started feeling really nauseated (always feel that plus shaking when I am low)..so I checked my sugars and I was at 68...that is too low for me...I started drinking apple juice and that did not help..it always had before...I checked again and I was at 58...so I put sugar under my tongue and eventually it started to rise..I was feeling rather faint. This is starting to happen a lot. So, the lows are happening and hardly any highs...I don't, of course, go down as fast as other people after eating but I have never been over 140 2 hours after a meal since having my daughter. Any thoughts on what is happening? I am calling the endo tomorrow. Thanks in advance...Lisa

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter! It sounds like to me that you need to be checked for diabetes. I say that only due to knowing that when I breastfeed my 7 month old son that I go super low very quickly with it taking everything out of me. I have found that I have to eat my 3 meals and snack around them to keep from having so many lows. If you are breastfeeding your daughter I suggest that you try checking your blood sugar before you feed her and directly after you feed her, because from doing this for a while you will begin seeing a pattern of how much your blood sugar goes down by to make it easier on you to figure out how much and what you need to eat to prevent from
Hi Lisa,
I am Hypogloxcemia. I have frequent lows. My advice to you would be to eat snacks. Try and stay away from sugar! Sugar is not you're friend at this time~.( lol)
I thought I might share my experiences with you. I don't want to scare you, but before I was diagnosed as a Type 1 diabetic I had a problem with low blood sugar or hypoglycemia. I had several episodes of hypoglycemia and I know how awful it makes you feel. Even when I deal with it now, it's just a horrible feeling. Since you are not diabetic, this is not a normal occurance. I think that it's your body saying to you that there is something screwy going on. I would suggest seeing your doctor, just as a precaution, and having him run a few tests. I think being that you had gestational diabetes and are now experiencing these episodes of hypoglycemia, it's very important that you go and talk to him. Everybody is different, so this maynot be anything to worry about...it might mean just eating smaller meals more frequently. However, I think it's best to be on the safe side and get checked out.
I hope things turn out ok for you. Please let us know, ok? :)
