I do...but you wouldn't know it if you saw it! My friend made me a beaded bracellet with my name on it and the bottom clasp is the medical ID part! They have some just like it a www.laurenshope.com Those are way too expensive tho! If anyone is instrested in having one made...my friend will make you one for $35! E-mail me at mammamotek23@yahoo.com if you want one.

I have one. its a medical dog tag & on my keys. I almost always have my keys with me. It has my name that I'm type 2 , on insulin & lists my two blood pressure meds. one that I take is a beta blocker, which they may need to know since it counter acts epinephrine. I am also allergic to penicillin (even if I cant spell it!) & that's on there too.

I wear a gold and silver bead bracelet from Lauren's hope. The words diabetic and hypertension are ingraved on the i.d. plate. The weight of the plate seems to make the bracelet hang on the wrist so that the beads show on the top of the wrist. I am 65 yo and there are several things that might cause me to be unconscious, the least I can do is give the EMT's a hint or two. I can understand not letting employers know or some other people, but I don't think we should keep too many people in the dark. I also keep a sticky note on the back of my driver's license; if I'm pulled over by the police, I might need help, not to be arrested. 2sweet02

In my opinion, I think it's a very smart idea to have a medical id bracelet. If an emergencey happens, I would want whoever is helping me to know what to do as soon as possible. I say this whether you are on insulin, meds, or just on diet and exercise alone. If you are diagnosed with this medical condition, even if under good control, something could happen and having an id would really come in handy.

I don't want sound like a hipocrite, but I must admit I don't have one at the moment. I am planning on getting one. I have put it off, but I really feel that it's important that i get one being that i am on insulin and that sometimes makes things a little unpredictable. I am not sure what kind I am going to get, I know I just need to get one.

Just thought I would give my 2 cents.

Hey you pregnant lady! I sure have missed all of the updates on your pregnancy. How many weeks are you and how is everything going so far for you? Have you started a list of names or picked any paricular names out yet? See so many questions for you already. I still have no forgotten about crocheting you a blanket, but I am also hoping to have an embroidery machine to make you an extra special blanket for the baby. I have been trying my hardest to save all I can for one, but things are tight for us right now. I am embarassed to say that I do not have a medical bracelet at all, but do know that I really do need to get one for those days I am alone and away from home. Granted that isn't often at all, but

Okay y'all...I emerged from my denial last month and ordered my medic alert necklace! I picked the necklace b/c I didn't want to answer a barrage of questions that might come from a bracelet. I wear minimal jewelry anyways, earrings at the most. I find I can't stop playing with this necklace though, so may need to buy a bracelet to replace it! LOL I had to have two or three goals at the end of my diabetic class last month, so the necklace was one of them. Diet and exercise are the other two, and I am failing at both of those! Even if you are okay 100% of the time, think about if you are in an accident and unable to speak for yourself. There are treatment protocols that are different for diabetics, etc. My medic alert necklace just states that I am a diabetic and to call immediately their number. They also take your contact information for husband, doctor, medication you take, etc. It is important that whatever you pick you wear, either as a bracelet or a necklace b/c medical personnel are trained to look for these specifically.

You can read more at medicalert dot com.

I also have a red and white id card that I carry with my driver's license that says "I have diabetes" in bold print and holds information about my medications, blood tests, doctor and phone number, etc. It comes from the BD Consumer services...it has their 1.888.BDCARES phone number on the card or www dot bddiabetes dot com I am sure if you email them or call them they will send you a card too. I think the card is cool b/c it has room for 4 separate sets of blood test and doctor visit information- it also contains first aid information on what they should do if we are acting strangely or cannot be awakened. I think we need to be proactive and do our part to take care of ourselves. Michele

Thank you so much for the web address for the medical ID cards, because I have been looking for something to place with my drivers license in case of emergency. Now I will see if I can't get one of those cards to place with my license. You are so right about it being vital that all of us with a medical condition have proper identification so that medical professionals have the information they need to help us. I use to have a bracelet that I wore 24 hours/7 days a week that did come in very handy quit a few times, but the darn corners on it got sharp some how and I no longer can wear it. How ever I will be purchasing one here very soon in fact next Friday I will be ordering myself one, becuase I never want to be with out one if at all possible.

I am so glad to hear that you got one for yourself and have done all you can to help yourself to the best of your abilities if there was to be an emergency. As for the diet and excercise, you will get there soon enough. You just have to remember that your new at all of this and any small step you take towards reaching your goal is excellent. I just know in good time you will be achieving all of your goals, which by then you will not even remember having them as goals from doing it so often. Do take care and know that you are doing fantastic, but also have one heck of a great day!
