Questions about supplies / resources

I'm not certain if this question is supposed to be asked here or not. If not please forgive me and I'll understand.

Where do you typically get your supplies (test strips, lancets, meter batteries, etc.)? This is what I'm looking for: My Dad has run out of test strips and is on Medicare (all this is still new to me, so overlook my ignorance). Today while at grocery store we looked at test strips and they were fairly expensive there, and he refused to purchase them. I'm looking for other, reputable, alternatives for these supplies. I've seen websites and TV ads that say "medicare covers cost of these supplies". Does anyone here have suggestions on places that really work - no gimmicks, etc.

I will be searching his Medicare coverages for answers too. If you don't want to post, I'll accept e-mails at sourgrape70@yahoo.com

Thanks again,

Licia

Hi Licia, I get mine from a pharmacy in a Rosauers grocery store that I have been with for over 18 years now. I like to purchase all my prescriptions from the same place this way there can never be a problem with a chemical mixture from some of the other prescriptions I am on. I was told that it is the wise thing to do if on many differnet types of medication. I can only suggest that you talk to medicare to see exactly what places you will get the best coverage for your father when it comes to his prescriptions, because they would know the best places to for you to look into. I sure hope this helps and that your both find a place that works out well. Take care and have an absolutely wonderful day!

Hey Hey...

I was recently diagnosed and had to go out and compare prices because my insurance does not cover a lot. I have found Walmart and Shopko have very fair prices. Walmart over Shopko. I have to go to Shopko because Walmart does not carry the Novofine Pen Needles I like. They do carry lancets at about 10 bucks a box, strips are a 100 for about 80 bucks and they have an assortment of meters and such. Some online places are safe and have good prices the only one I have ordered from and been very pleased with is www.diabeticexpress.com. Their prices are very reasonable. You would have to talk to them about the Medicare, but they are very custoomer friendly not to mention you can talk to a Pharmicist. Well I hope this helps a little. I know how scared and overwhelmed I felt when trying to find all these things out. Know we are all here for you. Take care of yourself and I hope you find what you need.

You can go to a pharmacy and get the off brand and its alot cheeper. Some healthcare stores( sells doctors coats, wheelchairs, medical supply) Will cover medicare & medicade when you're local stores won't.
