CDE appt update........
| Mon, 02-09-2004 - 4:55pm |
My first appt with the CDE was today, and it was quite uneventful. Having developed Gestational Diabetes during my pregnancy, I had read a lot then and even more now that I was diagnosed in January. I've met with 2 dieticians so knew what I was suppose to eat, and knew that adding more exercise was all that I really needed to do. I didn't learn anything new from her that I haven't already read about or been told by other doctors or nurses. She downloaded my tests from my meter and there were only 2 tests that were out of range. She said I was doing very well. She also had me meet with a dietician and after hearing that I'd already met with 2 others (1 during my pregnancy and 1 in November after my OB suspected diabetes) she saw my tests were within range so said there was nothing she really needed to tell me. I'm to go back in 4 weeks for a follow-up so that they can monitor my 2nd month's progress and see if any questions have come up. They weighed me, and I have lost another 2 pounds, so am down 15 pounds now.

Way to go Angie!! Wohoooooooooooooo
Thanks so much! My husband is appreciating the side effects of me losing weight (wink wink), but isn't one to notice if I'm wearing my old jeans again! Come summer when I won't be in the baggy sweatshirts, it will be more noticeable...hopefully to everyone by then! I've found a great way to get 20 minutes of exercise! We have friends whose son has always loved "The Wiggles" on Disney. Lily loves them now that we've discovered them for ourselves, and when Bailey was home last week, he liked them too! They sing and dance alot during the show, with fun upbeat music so Lily and I basically dance and jump our way thru the show! It's on here at 7am, 8am and 11:30am CST. Just a thought for you......
Great job on your husband's weight loss! Is he doing anything differently from what you are, or do you think it's just his metabolism that's letting him lose still? You'll get there too. You're right, we all lose at different speeds. My mom is also trying to lose but has hit a plateau and is having a hard time getting over it. She's ready to try something else now.
Oh Angie, you made me laugh so with the wiggles, because that sounds just like what both my boys do wiggling about the house these days. The boys and I love to dance around, but I do have to help my 7 month old (will be 8 months on Friday) with his dancing or hold him while I dance and he isn't no skinny boy what so ever with weighing in easily at around 22 to 24 pounds so that is a ton of excercise for me. LOL
I so agree with you that the Atkins plan is not a healthy lifestyle! My mom tried it for a brief time and wasn't losing the weight and she just didn't feel good about eating all that grease and fat! The South Beach diet is suppose to be a good one. It's what my husband's doctor recommended he try...but it still limits the carbs too much for him. The doctor's keep thinking that his neck and throat will thin out by him losing a few pounds. What they don't care to listen to though is that his neck size has remained the same whether he's 15-20 pounds lighter or not. They act like he was a 15 inch collar size in dress shirts and has suddenly in the last couple of months grown to a 17 1/2. Um...no, I've bought the dress shirts for years and always in a 17 1/2 neck size! Reducing the size of his neck they say will help with the sleep apnea...but we haven't seen a change in his sleep apnea since I've known him no matter his weight.
I'm not sure if The Wiggles have any video's or not...they might! They have clothes with themselves on it, so I'm guessing there's video's out there! When we first saw them, when Lily was just born, we thought they were so annoying and obnoxious! How things change when you're watching them with a child and you see how much they like them! The songs are catchy, colors are bright, everything the little ones love! The cable prices here dropped when satellite dishes became so popular! Now we have expanded cable and for one price you get so many great channels. HBO, Cinemax and Showtime are all extra if you want them, but we've never had them. By not having cable, you are definitely not missing out. I'm sure you spend more time actually spending time with your boys than sitting in front of the TV. Lily watches Sesame Street a few days a week, and on days when she's still awake at 11:30, she'll watch The Wiggles. Our son watches very little TV. His class did a study on TV viewing, and we were definitely in the minority because of how little we watch it. He loves to read, and has quite the imagination so plays and plays and plays! He's recently found that he loves to build with Lego's, so that gives him another outlet.
I too am glad I found the board and you, too. It's nice to have someone else that I can connect with. From one of your other posts, I see we're the same age too! So many similarities, yet so many states separating us! Have a great Wednesday...make it happy!
I have an answer to that Wiggles question, ladies!
My friend has 2 boys herself (5 1/2 and 2) and her 2 year old back in November had a Wiggles BD party (Mom even asked that the adults come dressed like the Wiggles.

I am so sorry Angie, but I had to laugh with the doctors thinking that your husband's neck will go down if he looses the weight and his apnea will be better. My husband has had a huge neck forever to the point we can only get him dress shirts from like a big and tall mans shop, but also due to his enormous shoulders and arms that do not fit so well in just any shirt. Here he has lost 22 pounds and counting, but no his neck has not gotten smaller in size so I laugh at your husbands doctors with that one. Oh, I also have sleep apnea problems that my doctor at one point wanted to put me on medication to make me sleep and I of course would not agree to that since I wanted to figure out a way of making me sleep normal on my own in which I went from no caffeine at all and only drink water like 3 hours before I need to be in bed. It has helped me out some, but I still find myself having problems of not being able to fall asleep so easily as most can do in which I have to read a book or crochet for a while until I feel I can sleep. This is the worst problem to have when you need to sleep in order to be alert to take care of two little ones.
I will have to take a look around to see if I can't find some videos of the "Wiggles" until our satelite or cable companies decide to some down some more since we preger not to pay $55.95 a month for cable service due to us being out of the big city limits. We call this just plan down right unfairness and will not pay that kind of money for only your standard cable channels where as if it was with the added channels then we couls see why. My older son has a routine of what he watches daily starting at 2 PM he watches Mr. Rogers Neighborhood, 2:30 PM Sagwa, 3 PM Arthur, 3:30 PM Static Shock, 4 PM Pokemon, and at 5 PM he watches Zoom. After all of those shows he is done with television and will eat dinner then play some with his baby brother in which we all have tons of fun doing different things together most of the time it is trucks and cars time, but occasionally we find something else to do. My oldest from the time he was a newborn has loved television and would lay there looking at the stations in which his pediatrician said he doesn't see why he would be looking at it when he can't see it. We how ever believe he was able to see it since he would get made if we turned it off. We did purchase him a Leapster multivideo syster for his birthday and he does that the rest of the night until he gets to tired in which he loves doing "Dora the Explorer" so very much and Spongebob, but also likes the cassette that came with the machine as well. We also got him a kindergarden and first grade ones as well, but plan to save those for later on when he will be ready for them. Now we want to get him the phonics, draw and write, and a sentence one as well this way he will be better prepared for kindergarden.
I enjoy our passing posts back and forth so very much especially since we have so much incommon with one another, but also that we connect so well. So dang to the states that block us from living close to one another who knows though things change every day and so can where we live with the way things have been going. Take care and do have a super duper Thursday! Oh, do you watch Friends and ER? I am a big fan of those shows that come on where I live on Thursdays. Well, off to get me some water and my snack before bed.
Yeah, see, you so know where we're coming from with the doctor's thinking Pete's neck will thin out. WHATever! He's had one surgery where they removed the uvula, thinned out his throat,
Man oh man Angie, I am so sorry to hear of your poor husbands surgeries that the doctor thought would help him. It sounds like they
