knowledgeable about food. Ok, I have been eating iceberg and romaine salad with cuccumber, carrots, bacon bits, American cheese, croutons, and blue cheese salad dressing for over a week now. It is the only thing I crave and want to eat, but I don't know if it is so good for me to only be eating salad three or four times a day. Can you tell me if there is anything wrong with that or if it isn't good for my body? I do have a some glasses of milk as well with my salads. I am worried about my appetite and so is my husband who keeps trying to get me to eat something else besides just salad. Granted I also want to lose weight, but I am not eating it to help me with that I just absolutely have to eat it or I do not want anything else. Yes, I have thought about forcing myself to eat other things, but I know it will only end up coming back up on me due to me just not wanting nothing else. I'm really hoping somebody can help me out with this one or at least enlighten me on this subject. I apologize for being overly dramatic here, but I did not know how else to get my point across to you all. Take care and enjoy your day!

I am no nutritionist by any means, but I think that you are limiting yourself too much. I have to agree that salads 3 or 4 times a day are not enough. It sounds to me that you need to eat more in general. I have done the same thing in the past. I have tried to limit what I eat to very little, and it backfires. I don't lose weight, and my metabolism slows down. It gets to be too restrictive. I think it's great that you are eating your vegetables, but I would try to eat some from all food groups as well, I think there is a reason to why we have the 4 food groups. Like you could add some chicken to your salad and maybe have a fruit along side too. That would round out the meal nicely. Or have a salad with soup and a piece of bread or fruit. For snacks, have a small piece of fruit with some nuts, or have a lowfat yogurt. These are just some ideas, and I'm sure you will hear some great ideas from others as well.
I am no expert by any means, and do need to work on my own eating habits, but I jus tthough I would add my 2 cents here anyway. I sure could use to eat more veggies, lol :0 , and probably not as many carbs as I have been eating- lol! I guess we all have things we could improve on.
Good luck and let us know how things go!
Andrea :)
Hey Denise! I too love salads and love to dine at restaurants that have a great salad bar! I'm concerned that you're not getting enough carbs and proteins in your diet with the salads you're eating. What about adding chicken or tuna to your salad for some protein, and a chopped egg a few times a week, but limit the eggs if you're needing to watch your cholesterol. Also lowfat cheese and nuts, but again limit them if you're watching cholesterol. In the produce section there's a new salad topping called "Almond Accents" by Sunkist. They're wonderful and give you a little added nutrition too with being a natural nut.
I have to agree that it doesn't sound like you're getting enough protein or carbs, and I'd be concerned about that because veggies are basically water, and the milk and cheese aren't providing anywhere near enough protein.

Thank you Andrea for your two cents. I guess I am just a big vegetarian and just don't even know it, because I can't stand meat of the pork, beef, chicken, turkey, fish, or any other family so I have been doing what my body wants and maybe it isn't good for me. How ever I do eat a giant bowl every time in which I do get full so I know that I'm not starving myself by no means what so ever. I even tried adding 2 hard boiled eggs, which wasn't that bad other then it made me gag some and that isn't bad as long as it stays down I don't mind. I will try my best to eat better and healthier, but it may take me some time to get there and when some of my favorite fruits are plentiful I will add way more carbs to my diet.
I so appreciate your advice on my meals I'm eating, because I just had this feeling that there might be something wrong with what I am doing to myself. I also forgot to mention that I take a prenatal, folic acid, C, and E vitamins to make sure I get what I need one way or another. How ever I do know that even taking this vitamins cannot suplement real vitamins I need from food. So we shall see what I can do to get my meals better for me in some way so wish me some good luck with that task at hand.
Well, I am off to get some of my dishes done while the boys are asleep. I hope all is well with you right now and that your blood sugars have been outstanding in numbers. Do keep us posted on things with you, because I always love hearing from you like so many of our members. Take care and have a fabulous Wednesday!
Hey Angie, I knew I would be seeing a post from you on this subject. LOL I also should have told everybody that I am just about a vegetarian due to me no longer eating beef, pork, turkey, chicken, fish, and a few others that I can't seem to remember at the moment. How ever I do eat crab, lobster, and tuna so I am not a 100% vegetarian due to them not eating any of that at all. I also do eat a truckload of tofu due to the fact that I absolutely love it so very much. I just have not been up to eating all of the above lately for some reason and I can't exactly explain why. I also did add boiled eggs to my salad mix, which I also have been craving those wonderful radishes that I cannot wait to get when they are in season here in our stores along with my favorite fresh fruits. So it isn't like I have not eating any protein at all with adding the eggs to my salad. I also take a prenatal, folic acid, C, and E vitamins every day. I know that suplements cannot give me what foods can, but at least I do make sure I get some vitamins some how. The nuts I love are not in season unless I go to the nut factory some time to get some, you know the very dark ones that each and every one of them is shaped different and they contain nothing except sweet white nut inside. I will have to see if I can't talk hubby into taking me there some time soon. Now that I have said it to myself they sound so good and would be great in my salad. hehehe I do have a cholesterol porblem, but really not that bad at all just slightly elevated so I don't really worry about it at all. Talking about cholesterol my husband has fantastic levels no matter how or what he eats. He is so very lucky to be that way, which he is a big time chocolate lover all the way. He can't get enough of it in each day. Ok, I also forgot to say that I eat broccoli sprouts in my salads every time to, so I am not that bad at least I don't think so. Do you think I am bad for not wanting to many carbs right now? If you say I am then I shall add a few club crackers to every salad I eat after you tell me your opinion on this matter. Now as for my salad dressing I add it on top of my salad and mix my salad up with my fork to get it worked through so that way it is on the salad, which I find to be the easiest for me to do especially with the boys not always eating when I feel hungry and you know trying to dip with them both on the floor can cause a big mess by the dressing being knocked off what ever it is sitting one at the time. I also love salsa, but with my acid reflux I tend to stay away for it unless I am feeling the big urge to temp it. Oh, I also don't worry so much about the calories as I do about the carbs, which if you go with a lite dressing it contains less calories and more carbs so I choose to go with a regular dressing since I do need the calories with my still breastfeeding.
Ok, I have tried my best to explain it to you the best I can and I do hope this post helps to make things more clear for you. Don't worry to much, I go through food phases many times a year and this just happens to be one of those times. I can't say how long it will last or when it will end, but it will stop eventually. So I will do my best to get myself over this food craving maybe even try forcing other foods down to see how that goes. Just know that I am doing my best to get this all resolved as quickly as possible, so take care and do have a wonderful Wednesday!
Hey Denise! I really want you to go to the link on the Freebies board I posted in a separate post so you can request the Chicken Soup for the Diabetics Soul...if you don't have any of the Chicken Soup for the Soul books, I know you'll love it!
With your pump, do you still test your sugars atleast a couple times a day? I've noticed that I've had to cut my dinner carbs down in order to get a morning fasting number than I'm happy with. I was already on the lowest number of carbs they recommend and with me removing one from dinner, I'm even lower but feel better and am seeing better tests in the morning so I'll stick with what I'm doing. I don't want you to overcompensate with insulin for not eating properly, and certainly don't want to see you end up in a hospital. You've been diabetic for a lot longer than I have been and I know you know what you need to do to stay healthy and maintain your sugar levels. As great as milk is with carbs, protein, calcium, and Vitamin D..it doesn't have the grains and fiber in it. Another thing you could add for some carbs is Bran Buds cereal.
Oh Gabby, how I just knew somebody would come up with a solution for me and it was you thankfully. Who makes protein shakes? I am interested in getting me some due to my not eating meats these days really all except crab, lobster, shrimp, and tuna. I have added boiled eggs to my salad though so maybe that will help me some and I also use broccoli sprouts as well in my salad. You just might have a point to why I am not so hungry these days. I don't think it is pain from my toe since I do the daily doses of tylenol to help with pain and it does help so very much. How ever it could be stress related due to not having a car for myself still with the weather being so cold and snowing just about every couple of days it doesn't help my husband to be able to fix the other car due to us not having a garage for him to work in, which you know what that means working outside and with it being so cold I can't expect him to work on it until it warms up a lot. Could it be due to the fact tha lohe also bounced 3 checkd from his not keeping better tabs on the checking account to the point that we didn't have much left over to buy food for the boys or diapers and that we are now very late with our house payment once again. I guess I am frustrated with things that I have no control over since I don't write the checks or use them at all for anything, so he has left himself to take care of it and as done a super lowsy job of it so far. I'm also upset that he can't remember a holiday such as Valentines day without the guys at work reminding him at the very last minute. Oh, did I also mention that
Thank you so much for that heads up on the "Chicken Soup Soul" book, because I have so wanted to purchase one and now I will get one. I also want to get the one called "Mother's Soul" and a few others, but I have not been to a book store in quite some time now.
You're welcome, Denise! Liking Grape Nuts, you'd like Bran Buds too...and I think the Bran Buds have more fiber! I put them in my yogurt like you!
I love oriental foods! We have a Japanese restaurant in town, but Pete's not real into it..plus it's really expensive. We had a great Thai restaurant but it closed. Bailey and I could eat Chinese about every day and not tire of it, but that's too much for Pete.
Your message to another post sounded really down. I hope you're feeling better. I'm lucky in that Pete remembers holidays and our anniversary every year, even our first date anniversary. Does your husband know how upset you are by him not remembering, or is he maybe thinking that since money needs to be spent other places right now, that you're ok with it? If he has his own email address, send him an ecard from http://www.beatgreets.com explaining your thoughts. They have cards that can say what you're thinking with a song, and you won't have to add to many words of your own. As my grandpa has always said, "Once angry words are on their way, not even God himself can bring them back." Don't say something you'll regret tomorrow, but let him know gently how hurt you are.
See I just knew we were connected with your loving Oriental food and my living for it daily with being half Japanese. If we only lived close by we could go for some
