Okay, I'm up for the challenge. I was inspired by your tracking and being able to see the entire year. I think I know what I spend...but I have a feeling that I might be surprised, and not pleasantly either, lol!
My first shopping excursion of January will be a big one because I haven't been replenishing things, been cooking with what I have available, and I haven't done much shopping at all in the last few weeks (other then the trek to Whole Foods).
Hi, I'm stepping out of lurkdom to join the challenge. I really want to learn how to be more frugal because we pretty much suck at it and are on one income (fam of 5) so should really be watching our spending.
I have a question about this challenge. What is better as far as keeping a total, to have two running totals for groceries and then other household goods such as cleaning stuff and toiletries or to just have one total? I kinda think I should do two since I currently have 2 toddlers in diapers and since those are pretty expensive it could skew things, kwim?
Hope this sounds coherent, I am in the process of weaning my 15 month old and am sleep deprived, lol.
Welcome to the board, Laura, and thanks for joining in!
I know some people here do include all the household stuff in their totals. Personally, I keep my grocery tracking separate from all that supply stuff. I rarely buy any of that at the grocery store, so it's not a big deal to keep it separate for me. In your case w/the diapers, I'd separate it. I think you'll be able to get a better picture of what it costs to feed the family.
As far as wanting to learn to be more frugal--that's a great goal! I'm sure you'll be able to pick up plenty of tips here. If you have specific questions, be sure to ask. Everyone here is great at giving advice, suggestions, encouragement, etc.
I'm going to give it a whirl! DH keeps track of much of our grocery spending on MS Money, but I know we have cash purchases that don't get accounted for...plus sometimes when I pick up a few things at, say, Walmart, they get lumped in

I'm new to this site and so glad I found it too as I'm always looking for ways to save money especially at the grocery store.

Okay I am in. But I am going to start on January 10th. :))) I won't need to go to the grocery store until we move to OH.
Please count me in. This sounds like such a great idea and should help me to see how I'm doing.
