feeling drunk

I stumbled onto this board, so I thought I'd ask all the experienced people here. A brief background: To start, I haven't been diagnosed with diabetes. I had a cholestrol screening last year in which they also did a fasting glucose. Mine was 110. Not bad (but not wonderful). Prior to that I was having some problems with funny rashes and edema that no one really figured out, but it resolved when I started taking glucophage for polycystic ovarian syndrome.
Okay fast forward to this past weekend. Within about half an hour of eating I get this funny feeling. Kinda lightheaded, but not really. More like a drunk feeling. Things have been pretty hectic and my diet and exercise has been pretty non-existant for the past few months. So can someone explain this funny drunk feeling to me.
Thanks,
Krista

Hi Krista,
Welcome to the board. My name is Mary Frances and I am one of the community leaders for this board. I am a type 2 diabetic and a registered nurse. Any advise I may give is not a substitute for seeking medical advise from a health care practitioner of your choice.
In addition to your diagnosis of PCOS, you also had insulin resistance and pre-diabetes last year. You have been receiving treatment for the PCOS and the insulin resistance and also for the pre-diabetes. Glucophage is used to treat all three conditions.
Do you have a home glucose monitor? If you do you need to be testing your blood sugar, especially after meals. You also need to contact your physician for a fasting blood glucose and an A1C test. You may have moved on to the diagnosis of diabetes type 2. It is impossible to tell from what you have told us plus you can't diagnose over the internet. So please make an appointment for these tests and then we can all deal with what is the result.
Is your weight close to normal and do you get any exercise? If the answer is "no" to both of these questions, these are areas that you need to work on right now.
Please let us know when you are going to see your physician.
Do post any questions or comments. We will do the best we can to help you understand what is going on.
A gentle hug,
I'm not going to give advise since I'm a newbie. Have learned some valuable information from the members of this board who all seem like caring, knowledgeable people. Just finished my 4th week of diabetes education. Having my ups & downs, but sure am glad I "ran into" this board!
Good luck and God bless.
Kath
Hi Krista, welcome to the board. I am one of the community leaders for this board who has been a type 1 diabetic for over 28 years and on a insulin pump for over 6 years. Now I am no doctor so what I tell you is strictly form my experiences. I only feel the light headedness feeling when my blood sugar is either high or low, but generally more on the high side. So this just might be your problem. Have you had a recent fasting blood test performed along with a HbA1c to see where your at. I ask this due to your taking the glucophage, which is used for PCOS, inusling resisitance, and pre-diabetes. So I suggest that you get both tests done to see how things look there, which if by chance you have a problem in the blood sugar area your doctor can help you out with that. Also if you are not getting the excercise you once were or eating normally that can cause a big difference in your blood sugars, but also stress raises a diabetics blood sugar very easily.
Well, I really hope some of this helps you out some. I look forward to hearing what you do about the feelings you got and come back to give us all an update. I truely hope we don't see you here more often due to being diagnosed diabetic (no offense intended), but if so we really would enjoy getting to know you better and I know that you will make many new cyber friends from among the great members we have here. If there is any other questions you may have do not hesitate in asking them, because I know one of us will be able to answer it for you if not at least give you a link to a place where you can find the answer. Do take care of yourself and have an absolutely wonderful day!
Tried to get on the support chat just a bit after 6PM MST (8PM ET)and CL-charlotte311 wasn't even there! So much for trying that route. Was disappointed, and tried to send her an email. She doesn't accept emails. That's her choice, but if you're going to be a CL in earnest, shouldn't you be responsive?
I'm just bent out of shape. Sorry for the complaints.
