Carb Options foods........

While shopping today, I was able to find some of the Carb Options foods at Super WalMart. The inventory of them is just starting to be added as more room is made on the shelves, so hopefully I'll be able to find more each shopping trip. The items I purchased were the Alfredo sauce (although it only had 1 gram less of carbs than the Ragu), the Garden Vegetable pasta sauce (which has about 10 grams less of carbs per serving than the regular one next to it) and also the peanut butter! The peanut butter didn't have that much less carbs either, but the sugar content was drastically different since it contains Splenda instead of corn syrup. We tasted it when we got home and it was good..like regular peanut butter. We also bought a box of the Atkins whole wheat pasta, but at $4.48 a box, probably won't hoard it! We'll have the Alfredo sauce tomorrow with the Atkins pasta, so will report what we think of it another day.

Angie,

Have you been able to find the Breyer's ice cream? The new sugar free has only 4 grams of carbos in a serving and it tastes good too. I had some yesterday as a treat. I also found some choclate sauce in my local grocery store that is made with Splenda. It is pretty thick and so a little bit goes a long way.

I can't wait to hear how the Alfredo sauce is. I like Alfrredo sauce but don't eat it very often because of the amount of fat in it.

Manja!

Hi Mary Frances! Yes, we have recently started seeing a lot of low carb ice creams sweetened with Splenda on the shelves. I bought a container of Breyers, but we haven't tried it yet. Atkins has several ice cream treats with low carbs, but the fats were still 13-17 grams a serving..more than I wanted for 135 calories so I didn't buy any.

Angie,

I found it in the special food section, not the regular section, so look there. My sister couldn't find it either. I hope you can find it and can enjoy it because it does taste good.

One GOOD thing at least with the peanut butter is it DOES list trans fats...or actually it lists that there are 0 trans fats. not sure if the rest of the carb option foods do also...but with the peanut butter, about the only ones i had found that i trusted to not have trans fats were the kind where the oil seperates and the jars DO say no trans fats, and do not list at partially hydrogenated oils. that phrase is usually a hint there ARE trans fats.

i love peanut butter but can't afford to risk using foods that likely have a lot of trans fats!!!

of course im also stuck cuz i can use splenda but the maltitol(may have that spelled wrong) does the same number on me that the other ones like nutra sweet do(not the awful taste, but the runs to the restroom so to speak!!). i dicovered that after ONE hard candy where i think 4-5 were a serving and there was a caution on the bag NOT to eat too many because of that possible side effect. MY FEELING was ONE hard candy is NOT too many unless my body just cant handle that!! I can just imagine taking a pill splitter and trying to cut up ONE hard candy!!! Actually if I remember the Atkins Ice creams have that same ingredient which really frustrated me because i would love the peanut butter whatever ice cream bars!!

An aside on Breyers ice cream. I havent had any for a while but some of their regular ice creams like the coffee flavor is a lot lower in fat, calories and i think carbs than even some of the ice creams advertised as low in any of those.
