You all have been wonderful in answering any question that I have about my husband. He found out about 6 months ago that he has diabetic, I know with diabetic you have more chance of diabetic and heart attack correct? Well he told me last night that when he coughs or sneezes that his chest hurts right in the heart area and he gets pain down both his arms. He said the pain in his chest is like a burning pain, our kids are sick at the moment with cold and I was wondering if it had something to do with that. I told him last night he has to go to the emergency ASAP but he refuses his a hard head.At the moment as we don’t have insurance yet, it will kick in in a month, i even tried what about the kids if something happens to you but that did not work! .I say to heck with it and go to the emergency.Im waiting for his doctor to call me back and im going to have him call my husband, i know he will listen to his Doctor. Does this sound like the signs of heart attack or stroke?

Hi! Here's a link to the American Heart Association where you will find symptoms for both heart attacks and strokes. http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=3053

Julie:

Get him to the ER. Don't fool around with this. Oftentimes "heartburn" is mistaken when it could be a cardiac emergency.

My 32yr old brother thought his was heartburn, and he crashed into the Greyhound fence on the way back from the airport (he was the driver and there was no one else in the bus). They massaged his heart for a very long time, and then pronounced him.

Guess you can see I'm concerned. Please let me know what happens, ok?

(((hug)))

I am so sorry to hear that your husband is being so stubborn, because it is important to be checked if he or you think it is a heart attack. Since heart burn has been known to be a misdiagnosis and an actual heart attack in which I have heard more cases of this then I like to hear. I am so praying that your husband will get checked out, because it would be just horrible if he didn't go due to his being stubborn and actually had a mild heart attack. As one who has constant heart burn from acid reflux, I have never had that happen to me as of yet. So this does concern me as to what is going on with your husband especially when he will not go to the Er like he should. I hope his doctor gets back to you very soon. Do let us know what happens and if he goes tot he ER to get checked out. I also wanted to tell you that it is heart disease that is more common in diabetics. Have a pleasant day!

Julie,

The unusual symptom is the pain in both arms. In a heart attach it usually the left arm only. But he absolutely needs to have it checked out. Insurance or no he needs to have it checked. So i hope you prevailed in getting him into the ER. Please let us know what you found out.

A gentle hug,

Mary Frances

Hi Kathi,

I am so sorry to read about your brother. Men, for whatever reason, just think these pains will go away and that there is nothing wrong. As you testified to, it is often too late and there is nothing you can doing about it.

32 is much too young to leave this world for the next. I hope your story will help prevent this in the next person.

Yes, I know. It was too young. I was only 12 when he died. My father died of cardiac problems at 63, two months before my wedding.

So, you can see why I'm concerned about a heart condition for myself now that I have yet another marker...diabetes. I feel like I'm a walking wreck! High cholesterol, overweight, family history of heart problems...forgot what others I have as markers.

Don't know if sleep apnea is a marker, but this is the 2nd day this week I haven't slept during the night. This sucks!

No, I haven't had that test. Have had several treadmill, stress tests, however. One used Thalium (sp).

Tried to use my "Smiley Central"; can't get it to work. Must be just too tired. It won't let me add anything.
