diabetes has turned into type 11. I have 3 children and had GD with all three. My youngest is 2. I have not gotten my weight down since his birth as I had hoped to, but have lost about 16 pounds so far. I think I am having a problem now. I have always tested periodically but the numbers seem high to me now. My fasting this morning was 104 and 1 hour after dinner last night it was 147. These values are high for Gestational diabetes. I don't know what they should be for someone not pregnant. I also have PCOS. I am scared.

Thanks!

Hi Lisa.. The requirements for diabetics are different than when you are pregnant!! I had GD w/ my first & was type 2 diabetic w/ my 2nd.

Pregnant diabetic fasting <100; non pregnant diabetic fasting I believe is <120

I don't know 1 hour goals, I was never told to test at 1 hour, but pregnant diabetic is <120 2 hrs post meals & non pregnant diabetic is 140 or less.

try taking your sugars 2 hrs post meals & see what they are. Your fasting looks great

Good luck

Hi Lisa,

I also had GD with my first pregnancy and then it turned into Type 1! Here I am with baby #2 on the way with full blown diabetes! Fun!!!

Anywho...when not preggo your numbers should be (and this is according to my doc) fasting 90 and below and 2 hours after meals under 150. When preggo they should be same fasting...but under 120 2 hours after meals.

I've so been there, done that. If you need any additional support or a friend you can also e-mail me at mammamotek23@yahoo.com

Hang in there.

Lisa:

I'm a newbie. I'm pretty frightened also!

According to the new ADA guidelines:

fasting (before breakfast) should be: 70-110

2hrs after meals should be: below 140

A1C: 6.5 or below (like I'll ever make that again)

I see different numbers in these postings. I can only go by what my CDE, PA and endocrinologist told me.

Good luck to both of us and the rest of the group!

Hi lisa, welcome to the baord. I am one f the communitly leaders for this boars who has also been a type 1 diabetic for over 28 years no and on a insulin pump for over 6 years. I am no medical person by no means, but I was told while I was pregnant the last time that my fasting shoould be below <90 and 2 hours after meals it should be <120 in which my oldest son is now 8 months old now. I know that the numbers for fasting seems to change with time, but the person who would know best is the other community leader for this board. I can only give you what I have learned. I also have never been told by my ob or doctor that I should test 1 hour after meals, which I have heard that some doctors like that better. My suggestiont to you is to get yourself tested to see your HbA1c is and if that is high the doctor who prescribes that test for you can help you from there. I am so hoping that you are not diabetic, but you know how it goes with being diabetic having experienced GD three times before. Do let us know what you find out and what the result is for with your thinking your diabtic. Take care and do have a wonderful day!

Viki,

You haven't posted for awhile and I was wondering where you were. I just read that you are pregnant. Congratulations! When are you due? When do we get to celebrate!

Hi Lisa,

Welcome to the board. My name is Mary Frances and I am one of the community leaders for this board. I am a type 2 diabetic and a registered nurse. Any advise I may give is not a substitute for seeing emdcial advise from a health care practitioner of your choice.

I am sorry I missed your message when you posted. You must have posted it the day we had 40 messages.

Many gestational diabetics become full blown diabetics within two years of delivery. You as you already know are at an extra risk because you haven't been able to lose your baby weight. Since you aren't feeling well, please contact your physician and get a check up. You may be diabetic, its impossible to tell from the blood sugars that you report. But if you are you don't want to let it go, especially since you ahve three little children to take care of. So please let us know when you have your doctor's appointment and what your physician tells you.

Good luck and I will be waiting to hear from you,

Mary Frances
