Hi Shan! Welcome to the board, although I'm sure you wish as much as we all did that we didn't have to start posting here! Do you have a blood glucose meter? If not, you really should get one. Some doctors offices have them to distribute to patients, and some insurance companies will send them to you at no cost. Many meters have rebates as well. Hi Shari, welcome to the board. I am one of the community leaders for this board who is also has been a type 1 for over 28 years noe and on a insulin pump for over 6 years. I know how it is to love those carbs, because my husband is also like that. We have found that not completely taking the carbs out of his diet works with just monitoring how many carbs are in a given serving, which we let him have 30 grams in the morning with breakfast, 30 grams with lunch, and 30 with dinner. By us doing this he has lost 20 pouunds so far and has not gained any of it back, which we were so happy about and it has been almost 3 months now since he started that meal plan. You just have to learn to read the labels is all to help you figure out what is good and what is not. Also do get your daily excercise in, which helps to burn off the carbs some and also keep you healthier.
Oh, I have also added Chromium to my supplements since it is said to help the body use fats better and also can lower cholesterol a little as well. So I thought it cannot heart to try it out to see if it does make any difference for both myself and my husband. I'll have to tell you what I find out about that in about another 3 months this way I know if it works or not. I really do hope some of this helps you and that you find foods that you can live with that are lower in carbs for you. It is great to have you join us and I look forward getting to know you better as I know the rest of the members do as well. If you happen
