HI :(
I need a good kick in the pants and some help. I am 6 days away from having my BReast Reduction surgery and I am being a bad diabetic. I have always been a personwho turns to food for comfort and needless to say I am a major stress case prior to this surgery (I want it no doubt but still).
So yesterday I had a bad food day, ate too may carbs and paid for it with two high BS readings of 186 after dinner and 156 in teh evening. Luckily my fasting level was 'ok' this AM at 109 and now :( after a lunch of baked mac and cheese (please don't yell!) I am at 180.....
I knwo the best thing for me before surgery is to have my BS as tight as possible so why am I doing this. Old habits that die hard? OK I am NOT goign to whine or cry any more. I am going tolook forward and just do better. I guess I wanted to write this because I feel extremely GUILTY and somewhat like I am failing because I cannot just get it right and do it the right way, even though I need to. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAa.

I am :) to report that I went out with my friends after work and I had a house salad with grilled steak and balsamic vinegrette dressing on the side. I did have 2 cocktails but my BS is ok and I will check it again in an hour. I did not get to walk the dog as hubbie already had but I did do some push ups and jumping jacks.......I am feeling a littel better about what happened earlier and

Hi Michelle!
Sorry to hear you are stressing out, I can say pretty certainly that we all do that from time to time and a lot of times food helps to soothe and comfort our emotional state. I think most importantly is that you recognize what you are doing and by recognizing that I think that helps you to somewhat prevent yourself from getting too out of control. Although your numbers aren't superb numbers (and whose are, wink wink ;) ) they aren't that bad either. Being a type 1, I have seen much worse, which I am not thrilled about eithere, but it does happen. During those times, I do get anxious, frustrated, and often times upset by it. I realize looking back on those times that it doesn't help to react that way, but when that happens it's so easy to get caught up in the moment and dwell on all the negative things. Instead, of getting so upset or turning to food, it would be better to do something positive like exercise, or even better, talk to a friend or family member about how you are feeling. Also, I think it's good to put things in perspective. Take a step back and try to evaluate how well you are doing as a whole. Things tend not to seem that bad when you do that, and if there does seem to be a problem you can take steps to improve matters.
So I hope you won't stress out too much more, and I hope you will come to this board and visit whenever you need support. Let us know how you are doing.
Take care,
Andrea
From one stress eater to another...we can overcome/manage it...Oh, this is about you isn't it. Forgot!!! ;-)
Monday is surgery day? I'll send you light and love, and keep you in my prayers. It's going to go well. Just remind the anesthiologist and surgeon of the diabetes.
I know that the doc told you already about walking the dog and having her pull you. Please be careful!
You're going to be so pretty. Sure you want to go that low (breast size)? No matter, you have a great attitude.
Maybe the kick in the pants was the high readings earlier today, huh?
Keep us informed.
Hope your weekend is great. Play with your puppy lots and have a good time with your husband.
(((hugs)))

Kathi -
I have had discussions with both my Plastic Surgeon and the anesthesiologist I met with at pre-op about my diabetes and they advised me not to take my meds the AM of the surgery because it is easier for them to bring down a higher level than bring up a low level. Also my surgery is at 7AM so I will not have eaten anything and I should not be too high. I do not have a problem with too low levels at night and the anesthesiologist said they would check my blood when I was checked in and if it was too low give me something in my IV.

Michelle, I see we both have a dog named Marley! Ours is Marley Nesta, named after Robert Nesta Marley
Angie - So glad you had a nice time last time you were in Boston. You will have to let me know when you are headed this way again. We do love Volkswagons but in all honesty the newer ones seem to have more elctronic trouble that I care for. Right now we have
