I have posted on the B/C board but this is my first time here. Read the post from Domino effect. I know how she feels.

I'm in the same boat. Today is my birthday and I'm just wait for what is next. I have not taken any pills since '84, now I am on all kinds.

Mine started with a simple check up in June. My dad was really sick, so I didn't what to spend time on my problems. He passed away the first part of Aug. The next week I was dx with breast cancer, then my sister was dx with b/c 3 days later.

I did the radiation, had blood done in Oct. not bad, then after I finished treatment in Dec. and had another blood draw. Now my sugars are all messed up and can't get a straight answer from anyone. My local Dr. saw one blood test and wanted to start me on med. My cancer Drs. said do the Atkins thing and sent me to see a diabetic consulor, she was really helpful, told me Atkins didn't work and to eat what ever I wanted, check my blood and if it goes up don't eat that any more. I have never had any kind of test other than the Dec. blood draw. Had my 6 month mamo in Feb. it came back bad. Went to see the surgeon and a Dr. who deals with diabetic. Had to get my records sent. My local Dr. had no records on me since last July. (Can't ever remember how many times I saw him in Dec and Jan)

I had a blood draw last Wed after talking to a new Dr. then had a biopsy from another Dr. The surgeon called friday and said I have to have more surgery and I am still waiting to here about my blood work, hopefully tomorrow.

I have not got a clue weather I am a diabetic or not. Have been checking my blood and it had gone from 60 to 258. For 4 days it was 124 before meal and 177 after meal no matter what I ate or drank. Had a birthday supper last night with family and friend and ate things I shouldn't have, but when I check my level before bed it was 106. I did my d/h who isn't a diabetic and he was 124.

Do you count calories, carbs or the exchanges? I am scared to eat or drink almost everything.

Oh, and lastly, the ID bracelet . I am alergic to metals of all kinds and I know I can't be the only one. What do others do?

Any suggestion or help will be appreciated. Thanks, quess venting is good, huh?????????

Hi Eaves,

Welcome to the board. My name is Mary Frances and I am one of the community leaders for this board. I am a type 2 diabetic and a registered nurse. Any advise I may give is not a substitute for seeking medical advise from a health care practitioner of your choice.

I am sorry you are having such a rough time right now. You are dealing with so much and I hope that diabetes isn't added into the picture but I am afraid that it will be based upon the results you posted. Diabetes is diagnosed by a fasting blood sugar of 126 or above on two seperate tests, or a random blood sugar of 200 or greater or an A1C of 6 or higher. Most likely you had a fasting blood sugar done the other day.

There are a number of things which can effect your blood sugar levels and stress is one of them. Please ask your doctor for your numbers and then we can try to explain to you what we see.

In the meantime pull up a chair and join our conversation. We are here for you. We celebrate successes, lament failures and give gentle shoves when necessary. I would offer you a quiet peaceful place to sit with a warm cup of tea if I could.

A gentle hug,

Mary Frances

Eaves~

Happy past birthday from one Pisces to another! Mine is the 13th.

I'm not a medical person. It only makes sense to me that your BS would be screwy due to all the stress you've had for the last year! The chemo and radiation are definitely going to throw all body chemistries off.

I sure wouldn't go on either the Adkins or the South Beach diets. Best to count carbs, but be sensible about it. You sure don't want high cholesterol on top of everything else.

Sign a release for your oncologist and surgeon. Have them send your records to the endocrinologist. Set an appt. with a diabetes educator for some info.

Keep coming back to us! We don't care if your complain or share successes...that's why we're here. Believe me, the board members here sure have helped me keep my wits about me (sort of). I've had some problems, and get kind of wacky when I don't understand what's happening to me. I think we can learn from others' experiences.

There's a message from me and one from another lady about the ID bracelets. It should be about 1/2 way down the list. There are several sources listed in the messages; you should just read through them. One is www.laurenshope. com, but I think it's kind of expensive. I received mine from LifeScan for registering the meter. With your metal reaction, I'd discuss it with the endocrinologist &/or the CDE. They might have some ideas. Good luck with that.

((hugs))

Go to the General Messages, hit "more", and Ivlorriana's 3/5 message is there and mine of 3/4 is there. Both give some good comments about the ID bracelets. I think she has a metal allergy also.
