Anyone have a bright idea for how I can remember to take my 8mg Amaryl at night?

I forgot last night again. My 5am reading was 180 and dropped to 161 at 6:45AM today.

I sure screwed up again!

There are some pill boxes with alarms on them to remind you to take your meds. I'm sure after awhile it will become second nature to take it on your own..it's just a new routine to learn. I sometimes forget my pill after breakfast, so take it at lunch instead. Just a new routine for me too..and eventually, hopefully sooner than later, I'll get in the habit! I always remember to check my fasting level, so maybe for me a little note inside the meter case will remind me of my pill. Do you test before or after this pill? Maybe you too could do a little note t yourself?

Kathi,

I do in conjunction with brushing my teeth or with my meals. Sometimes I forget the meal doses but not the brushing teeth doseage. I have always found that patients will remember their meds if they are in conjunction with some activity of daily living. When the pill taking is at a strange time they frequently forget. This is why for example it is so nice that the newer antibiotics can be taken with meals.

Don't beat yourself up too much. Just take it when you remember if you forget.

Hey I have done that a few times myself with forgetting to take a very important medication, so don't get to upset at yourself since it does happen to the best of us. Now how about putting it some place where you always go before bed like the bathroom, but put up a big note on the mirror or what not to remind you until you get a good routine down in which it just becomes natural for you to take it without even having to think about it. Just a suggestion, but I know you will come up with something that works for you, because who else would know better about what your nightly routine consists of in order to figure out where to put the big note to yourself for a reminder to take your Amaryl. Hope to hear that you have found a way of remembering very soon. Take care and do have a fantastic day!

Dang! I had decided that 5:30PM would be the time. However, here I am reading the responses to my query. I sometimes think there's no hope for me! Off I go now to take the Amaryl!

Awwwwwwwww Kathie, you will get it down in no time at all after a while of taking it at a given time. You just gotta be patient with yourself and allow yourself to get use to it, which before you know it you will be taking it with not having to worry about reminding yourself since it will become second nature to you. So I am sending you aGreat Big Hug

Well, got the pills in me at 5:30pm tonight after I took care of my diabetic cats. My BS was 122 after dinner. Wish I could figure out how to sustain the healthy levels. I'm rather disappointed in myself.

Kathi - I can't tell you how many times lately I have said I am disappointed in myself for not managing my diabetes better. But PLEASE remember we each do the best we can every day and simply posting here means you care about yourself and how well you are managing the diabetes. You WILL get the new routine down I promise. Perhaps taking care of your diabetic kitties can be a reminder for you to take YOUR meds! Hang in there and know we are all here for you and have all struggled at some point, probably more than once.

That's an excellent idea. I'm pretty consistent about feeding and injecting them at the same times AM & PM. So, the evening it is! Thanks!!!
