Things are going a little better

I just wanted to report that my transition to insulin has been going a little better this week. I have had some technological difficulties though. I forgot to post my blood sugar in the calculator one morning and then later it wouldn't let me. Plus that the meter that I have to use has the wrong date. I think it forgot about February 29th!

But the highs and lows haven't been as bad as last week which means that I haven't over treated the lows. I am sure my average blood sugar is above 120 and so I am expecting them to increase the amount of insulin on Monday. The shots are becoming routine and really don't hurt. I have to really look to see where I injected it the day before. But my fingers aren't doing as well with all the testing.

I have been eating toasted English muffins for breakfast because they don't seem to bother my blood sugar as much as my cereal. Today I ate cereal and even got out the measuring cup instead of just eyeballing it. I will be testing before lunch but I am already feeling really hungry!

Thank you everybody for your supportive words and postings. I am still here everyday for you and it is nice to have your support and caring.

Hugs,

Mary Frances

I am glad things are going better for you. I understand about the sore fingers too! I have a routine I have developed for my fingers- of course- this is only for the weekdays, weekends are 'free for all' days- and I do have my 'favorite finger spots' to poke. I named all my fingers, starting with thumb- Monday, Tuesday, Wed., etc. I love giving my dh the finger on Wed.! I poke the top of the finger on my left hand for morning, bottom of left hand if it is lunchtime, bottom of right hand fingers for dinner, and top of right hand at bedtime. That way I am not poking the same fingers all of the time. Dh usually pokes my finger for me in the morning, since he is a morning person, and my eyes aren't usually open! LOL Since I am left handed, he pokes my left hand for me. I then can usually do the rest myself. On the weekends, I try to use the bottom of my fingers, b/c I don't test at lunchtime/ dinnertime/etc. often. They told me in the class to be careful where I poke and try to vary it so I didn't develop calluses. I have elephant hide tho'- hard to poke! LOL I got one of the freestyle meters free at my class, but I found poking my arm or top of my thigh to be more bothersome, and I just continued with the fingers. That is a LOT different than when I first started this in September! LOL I had my blood drawn yesterday for my Ha1c and my Cpeptide, etc. Don't know what all they are testing- I think they drew four big vials! Not my thyroid, b/c they did that in Nov. and it was normal. MH

Marion,

Thanks for the suggestion. I poked myself tonight before dinner and used the alternate site in the webbing of my left hand. I had to stick myself three times before I had enough blood to do the test and then I couldn't get the dern thing to stop bleeding. I haven't tried the alternate testing sites since I was in the trial. I didn't like the thigh tests either and it bothered me that the results we two hours behind my fingers.

Isn't it fun being a diabetic! Oh well, we will deal with it!

I am absolutely so glad to hear that you are not having such a bad time with your blood sugars being to high or low and that the shots are becoming so much easier on you. I just know in a few more weeks you will have your blood sugars in a great range and have the insulin adjusted just right for you. It just takes some time like everything else does. Your making a great adjustment to the insulin though, which is just fantastic. Even better that you are begining to feel like you again with not to many problems caused by the insulin. Your doing a great job in doing the research that can help so many other type 2's, which you should be so very proud of yourself for participating in it.

Talk about the things we learn with not measuring the exact amount we can eat to the amount we can. The wonderful changes we notice is really remarkable. At least you are figuring out what effects your blood sugars so much and learning how to not have that happen. For me cereals do seem to cause my blood sugars to rise in which I have to adjust my insulin a little to keep my blood sugars just right. How ever it also depends upon what type of cereal I eat with each one being different it also causes my blood sugars to be different as well. Just one of those try and see what happens kind of things while hoping that it things turn out just fine.

Glad to help you with some support with the research you are doing for so many others. You deserve the support, because you give it out all the time and it is the least we can do for you. Besides isn't that what this board is for to allow all of us to get some support when we really are in need of it. So you just keep letting us know how your doing, because we all love to hear about it. Do let us know if your insulin dose does get raised on Monday, because it is helpful to those of us who might be experience what you are going through with the high and lows. Now you take care of yourself, but also stay on top of things to the best of your ability. Have a stupendous day!
