Are there support boards here or elsewhere for those with juvenile diabetes? My 2 yr old was just diagnosed with it.

Many thanks.

Hi Carol.

We are mostly adults here with diabetes, types 1 and 2, gestational and prediabetes. We even have some folks with the diagnosis of hypoglycemia. Occassionally we have someone visit who has a child with type 1 diabetes. Mostly those folks can be found on the Parent's Place bullentin boards and so that is where I suggest you look. But do feel free to come here to talk with us as there are a number of members on this board who have had type 1 diabetes for many years.

Good luck and if you don't find what you need please come right back here.

MaryFrances directed you in all the right places. I just wanted to say hello and send a hug your way. It must be a hard thing to hear that your child (especially so young) has to deal with this. But know that it is something that can be managed and that there are advances being made daily. Best of luck to you and your son. MaryFrances is right we are always here for support.

Hi Carol, welcome to the board. I am one of the community leaders for this board who is also is a juvenile diabetic and has been for over 28 years soon going on 29 and on a insulin pump for over 6 years. I can honestly remember when my own mother received the news from the doctor, which I only remember this since my mother was taken out of the room and than brought back in crying like I had never seen her do before. I knew right then that something was terribly wrong with me. She came over took my hand and told me I would be just fine, but how was I to belive that when she was crying something awful. Well, I was 6 years old at that time and everything did turn out just fine and I managed to learn how to take care of myself as the years progressed. So just know that your child will learn how to deal with this from you and live with it. I know it had to be so terribly hard on you hearing this hard news, but I know you will learn what you must in order to make sure you child stays in the best of health.

I wanted to let you know that I have done some searching on parentsplace for a board for juvenile diabetes or even parents with kids with diabetes with no luck in finding a board. I did how ever find in adult health diabetes, but I know that is not what you are looking for at all. I really have no idea why there is no such board, because with millions of children diagnosed each day you would think that there would be a great support board for those parents. I may have to see about getting one started, because you are not the first to come to the board about a child and will not be the last. I can only extend a big warm welcome to you in that you may come and post with us at any time of the day you feel like doing so, because I know we have a great group of members here who can help out with lending some support and hugs when needed. Hey we can also answer any questions you may come up with as well. So I hope you will come and join us here, because we sure would love to have you here with us.

Sending you much patience, understanding, and health your way. Learn all you can to stay on top of your child's health, because that is the biggest thing I hear about from my mother who works at a school and helps out with 2 diabetic children do to her having had a diabetic child. You stay on top of it and you will always have the control needed to keep your child healthy. That is the best advice I can give you in not being lazy with learning all about diabetes for your child's sake. Do let us know how your doing along with your precious child, because I sure would love to hear from you. I know all to well how hard it has to be with having a 3 year old and 9 month old. So take care of yourself and your child. Hope to hear from you soon. Have a nice day!

Many thanks for your warm welcomes and I will go check out the board on Parents Soup. I did look through the PP boards and didn't see one and was curious why not!

So far so good although we've got a long way to go I think. Thanks again!

Please do come back to give us an update on things with your son, because we sure love to hear from members every once in a while. Wishing you all the very best and may you find the strength, but also wisdom to cope and deal with this medical condition. I know you both have so much to learn, but you will both learn what you must and stay on top of things as they always change as the years go by. You are always welcome back here if we can be of any help to either of you just let us know. My prayers and thoughts are with you both. Take care and do have a fabulous day!
