Wanting to know what type of test strips
| Fri, 03-19-2004 - 3:00am |
the Accu Chek Compact uses and how the blood is applied to the machine? I am thinking of calling my doctor to see if he has gotten any that he can give out to get people using them, because I have found that my Active keeps giving me the blinking of date and time just about every time I get it out to use it, which drives me nuts with not always having time to get that all straightened out again after already doing it just to get a test done. I mean come on I did not touch any of the buttons to want to set the date or time, so just knock if off already! it got so bad that I requested test strips to go back to the Complete in which it takes way to long to get the answer and I end up having to go to find it in the memory since at times my boys get cranky or need me right away. Maybe I should see about contacting Accu Chek to see what they can do for me today, which if all goes well for me I will be able to get a Compact some how so that I don't have so many problems of my oldest sone getting my test strips out and having them all over the place. Oh, the fun of having such a determined child! LOL Take care all and do have one heck of a terrific TGIF!

Denise,
17 strips come in a drum inside a cannister. You insert the
Thank you so super much Mary Frances for that wonderul information on the Accu Chek Compact, because it really helped me to see about getting myself one. It sounds just so great with not having to carry the dang strips with me and that my boys cannot get into the strips what so ever. LOL It also sounds so much more convenient to me to use than to keep using the Advantage that always seems to cause me problems.
I will be calling the Accu Chek company for sure to see what I can do to get myself a new Compact meter for an exchange since my doctor takes Mondays and Firdays off each week or at least does most of the time depending upon how much he needs to get done and if he has taken any trips prior than he sees patience on both those days, but that is still only occasionally. So if I cannot get one through Accu Chek who I have been with for so many years I will go through my doctor. I have also put in a request to get the newer Paradigm pump since I seem to need more insulin and the 511 does not hold much at all with the resivoirs only holding 1.8 ml and the newer 512 can hold either a 1.8 ml or a 3.0 ml so that would help me out so very much. I tend to get waken up late at night while asleep with an alarm going off or it does not wake me up at all depending upon how much sleep I have had the previous night. Let me just say it is not fun to have to get up in the middle of night to make up a resivoir while everybody is sleeping and you do not want to wake any of them up by needing light to draw up the insulin in the resivoir. I will know soon enough if they can get our insurance companies to cover the additional $299 for one, which I will be praying that they do since I am in need of one so very much not only for that reason though. I also seem to have no time to pull out a calculator to determine how much insulin I need to take for a bolus based upon my pump especially with 2 little ones. So I tend to wing it the best I can and it does not always work out right at all with my blood sugar eigher being to high or low in the end. So in time we will know if I can get one or not. I am so hoping that I do not need to wait until we can save up for one since if we pay out of our pocket it can take up to 6 weeks to get the money back for it. Although we will not have that insurance company of MSN blue shield/blue cross come the end of this month.
Ok, enough of that for now. I also know that you are so correct in that my boys would just love the drums to play with. LOL I do have another question for you though. What is the name of the lancing devide you were given with the Compact? I ask only since I have 2 devices from them with one being a soft clix older one cream in color with being rather larger in size and the newer version being much smaller in size while being a darker bluish color. I appreciate the information so very much on the lancing device. Oh, before I forget I finally got the board report to work for me so I need to know since I am off some how with having not writtne it down on my calendar if this is my week to do it. Thanks again, take care and do have a wonderful day!

Denise,
The most recent version of the Soft Click that I was given is the dark blue one and it uses flat white lancets. I am also able to get the lancets at Costco for about $12 for 200 of them. They fit nicely in the cannister after the drum is removed.
I tested a new lancing devise for Life Scan last year and absolutely hated it. My understanding was that most testers didn't like it either. Over the years, I like you, have used many different devises. Some I liked and some I sure didn't. I like the fact that I can buy more of the lancets for the same price as I used to pay for 100.
Grandson is visiting today for the first time and he is in to everything! It is only 8:30 and he is already wearing his grandfather out chasing him everywhere. He is busy running from window to window looking for birds! Oh to be that young again with all that energy.
Have a great weekend.

Thank you Mary Frances so much for that information. I guess I may have the newest soft clix lancing device without my even knowing it. LOL It is like a larger round size pen with a cap that you can adjust to different depths, which also uses the flat lancets with a oval shaped cap to them. I absolutely love that lancing device since it adjusts in depths especially when my fingers at time tend to get a little on the tough side and having to poke my finger numerous times to get enough blood with the older ones it just no fun at all.
It sounds like your poor husband is going to be extremely exhausted especially with chasing the grandson back and forth. LOL Isn't it just amazing how much energy they contain while they continue to go and move with not being exhausted at all. If we could just bottle some of that energy we all would never be overly tires. LOL I know all to well how it goes with little ones that are on the constant move especially with Avery walking and into anything and everything. Now Maxwell is still crawling, but is trying super hard to get his balance to be able to walk for a while now and on occasions lets go to see what happens. He usually falls onto his butt or his knees. I just know he is going to be a early walker for sure so that means I will be one exhausted mom for a while, but Avery does help out once in a while with his baby brother if he tries to get into something he should not be in. It is always nice to have a little help.
Well, I hope you both enjoy your visit with your grandson and that he does not overly tire you both out to much. Just remember that he does eventually go home and that is when you both get your breaks. LOL Take care and have a terrific day!
