Good news, sort of...

Well, went to the endo on the 16th. He didn't prescribe insulin. Yipee!!!
However, will be mailing in prescriptions for my Amaryl (still on 8mg, but before bed now) and Glucophage XR (is that right?). My drug company is going to charge me bunches. They're not nice!!! :-O
Weight: dropped 9# between 3/3 and 3/16 - hoorey!!! (my PCP says I've lost 29# in about 5 months)
BP: 120/70 - not bad for a fat lady!!!
Just needed to share the some good info since I'm either scared or crabby most of the time I write here.

Actually, I'm a bit apprehensive about the upcoming hot weather. Knowing that I'm diabetic on top of being prone to dehydration, is worrying me. I've always drank a lot of fluids, I think. Obviously, sometimes it hasn't been enough. I sure don't like IV's especially field ones (they seem to infiltrate on me).
I'm going to make a Costco run next week probably to load up on water when I go to get insulin and needles for Goldie and Angel.
The mail pharmacy program left a message stating they'd received my prescriptions
(Glucophage XR and Amaryl), and that they'll call me when they've been sent to me.
I wish they'd save the salary of the person who called me and lower my drug prices!
I'm sorry that I've been such a pain in the tush. Since this all so new to me, I know I've been asking lots of questions. Just hang in with me, ok? I'll try to be better.
Kathi,
That is what I am here for. Don't worry about asking what you think to be a dumb question. We have all been there and done that.
I am sure you are aware that both my husband and I are type 2 diabetics. When the vet decided that Cleopatra might be diabetic I called a halt to that! We don't need three diabetics in the same family! Anyway Cleo is 18 and doesn't seem to have diabetes but she is on
I believe that the insulin actually makes them feel better. Somehow I forgot to give Angel hers this morning and she was lazy all afternoon. One of the other cats must have interrupted our routine. It actually is prolonging their lives. You just give it in the neck fold, where the momma kitty lifts them to carry. It doesn't go into any veins.
They get food, a squirt of water from a plastic syringe, and then their 2 units. We've got it down to a routine. I'm very careful in drawing it up in the mornings because I don't want to make any mistakes. I take my level first, then draw up their insulin. That gives me enough time to wake up.

I'm feeling a bit pummelled after Coldfinger's comments today. Now I feel I won't be able to tease or have any light comments to anyone. Maybe I don't belong as a member of this board!
Kathi, don't you think that way! I left a message for you in the Off topic discussion folder.
And want to add another question to the ones I asked about your kitties. How did you get Goldie to lose weight? Do they share the same food bowl, or did they?
I'd like to say that I put her on the treadmill, but (hee hee) we both know that's just not true!
:-)
Kathi and Angie,
Believe it or not, your kitties need 20 minutes of exercise per day. I even got Cleo to do some ball chasing today which is pretty good for an 18 year old. Lately she has been sleeping a lot but she does get up and explore around the house. She still jumps on the counters some but not as much as when she fell two weeks ago. It is hard to judge is a really old cat what is normal activity.
Are they interesting critters?

Hi Kathi:
Glad to hear you had such Good News from your Doc.
Good Job on your weight loss. I'm so glad you don't
have to go on Insulin especially. Keep up the Good Work!
That is strange, that you have 2 cats with Diabetes.
Would they be related? Just a thought. What kind of
Insulin are they on? Ya, I can picture a cat on a
treadmill...for about 2 seconds. Ha!
By the way, you've made me giggle several times. Thanks!
It keeps the soul young. Take Care!
