Arrghh! I guess even though I did not have any BS problems while I was on vacation, the problems are hitting me now that I have returned home. Yesterday morning while in my morning class I got a horrible headache!! I had left my monitor at home so I couldn't check my BS levels. When on to lunch and had a fairly light lunch. Sandwich with only 1 slice of pumpernickle bread and my meat, a little cheese, lettuce, pickles and mustard, and a side of fresh veggies. After lunch I relaxed a little whiched helped the headache, but then the next class I had the rooms air conditioning was broke and the heat made me feel worse. Came home and took a nap before dinner. SO cooked and eating helped my headache, and after dinner my BS was only 90, but I still had a horrible headache. Went to bed earlier and woke up today with a headache again. Went to the office for a while until I couldn't take the headache and came home for lunch. I have a midterm tomorrow so I have spent the day trying to study, but ended up sleeping for a few hours and I have been incredibly thirsty since I woke up! Argh!! As soon as I drink a glass of water I am getting another one! Argh!! Sorry to take up so much space, but just needed to vent!!

for a L & D RN who'd lost her baby at 24 weeks. Was amazed at how small and perfect it was. The staff had wrapped the baby in a blanket and turned on the tv in the room where she was. Saw the mom separate from the baby. The OB/GYN wanted to make sure she was ok.
The doc must have liked what I did because he had me come back about 2 wks later to talk with a lady who was being prepped for a total hysterectomy. Sure was a doozy! Knocked over the pole, ripped out her IV's, tore apart the bed, punched a nurse and a few other things. Got a letter of commendation from the charge RN on that one.
Saw a c-section done in the ER and their attempts to revive the baby. Mom coded; so did the baby. Was sad to go into the family room. There were 6 other children there, plus the father and grandparents. My Spanish isn't as good as I'd like. Had to have an interpreter go in with me. Don't like to do that because of confidentiality, but would rather have them understand.
Saw the family of a woman in ICU who had staph and had her left leg amputated above the hip. The doc wanted me to do counseling in preparation for the life support to be terminated. Well, glad to say that after 8 years, the lady is still living. God sure works some kind of miracles!
The rest are OD attempts, drunks, self-mutilators, CMI's, psychotics who need to be committed, depressed people, women who have been beaten by their husband/significant other, etc.
It's been an interesting time.
WOW! I have worked in ER, ICU, new born nursery, labor and delivery, on the floor and in CCU. Most of my hospital time was spent in the specialty units. I was beaten up by a patient in CCU who went psychotic and dislocated my shoulder. I have also had to report elder abuse in the out patient setting that I used to work in and the person who was abusing the elder threatened to beat me up!
But you are not working at this point in your career?

Over 14 years, I've been assaulted several times. Now it's against the AZ law to assault a medical person. Charges were filed against one guy who'd assaulted his wife and a neighbor brought her to the ER with her baby. I wouldn't let him in the room and had security posted outside her room. He burst in and knocked me on my butt! When we went to court, he brought his wife on her Canadian crutches to testify for him along with their
5 kids. Obviously, they dropped the charges. I really didn't care. My only concern was the welfare of his wife. Don't know if she hid the domestic violence info and shelter list or not. One day, he might just kill her!
