You have all been so great about helping me out with all my BS concerns around my recent surgery. I wanted to  pop and and say thanks.  The "girls" are doing well. Healing more each day. I came back to work Monday (office/desk job) and am happy to be back. I am definitely tired and a little sore and swollen at the end of the day but I sleep like a baby!. The hardest part of the day is getting OUT of bed ;) but I do not think that has anything to do with the surgery I was like that before.

My BS levels have come down but still have a few more highs (what are highs for me) after meals than I would like. But accordingto everyone here 145-180 is not so bad for SOMETIMES 2 hours after a meal, other times I fall under 140 and most often I am between 140-160. I guess I have to stop comparing myself to "normal". or non-diabetic ranges but my doctor keeps telling me that is what I should be aiming for so I feel liek I fail when I do not get there. He is a great doctor and I love him but he is not the best motivator. No matter how much I do or how much weight I lose he is alwasy saying good really quickly then telling me how to do better.

I am starting to get a little nervous about going on insulin when I start to try to conceive. I know it is safer than the oral meds, which he ABSOLUTELY will not let me be on and says that I need something. We are going to probably start me on the insulin in July/Augst so I have a few months to adjust before starting to TTC in Noveber/December time frame.....of course that is if all else goes well.

Michelle~

Glad you and the "girls" are doing better. It will just take some time for you to heal the point that you won't even know that you had the surgery.

(((hugs)))

Oh Michelle, I know how scary it is for you to go from oral meds to insulin, but in the long run you will be doing what is absolutely best for a child you are trying to conceive since the oral medications do not work well with pregnancy at all. Also you will find once you have conceived that you will need to keep adjusting your insulin doses as your pregnancy progresses, but at the end after giving birth to your child you will be able to go back once again onto your oral medication. So just look at as doing what is best for your child to be, because I know how much you want to have a child and a healthy one as well. You are doing everything within your power to make sure you have a safe and healthy pregnancy and believe me there is so much to being a diabetic and pregnant at the same time, because you have to stay on top of things so much with blood sugars doing some funny things with those hormones going wile in the first trimester, but the second trimester things start to settle down a little bit and level out some. In the third trimester you may have to decrease or increase your insulin dosage depending on how things are going for you.

I truely wish you all the "good luck' in the world with going on insulin and with your trying to conceive, becasue I know how hard it will be at time for you. You will get that much wanted positive pregnancy for sure with doing everything the right way of getting yourself into good control prior to trying to conceive. If you have any questions in either area pregnancy or trying to conceive do not hesitate to ask me, beccause I have experience in both of those that is for sure. Oh, I also thought I would let you know that we are trying to conceive our third child now with the hopes of us being blessed with a little girl, but of course we will take what ever we are given just as long as our baby is healthy.

So you have all the support you will need from us all in helping you with your insulin and conceiving journey, because many of us know how it is to do both of them at the same time not to mention how much work it takes to maintain great blood sugar levels. Take care and do have a very terrific day!

You know what's funny about the measurements...different docs use different scales.

My friend, Judy, is caring for her 88yr old father who is a brittle diabetic. His

doctor said post-meal under 180 is good. I was told under 140 by my endo, PA, and

CDE.

Now, the A1C good level is under 6.5 as of 1/1/04. Heck, no wonder I get confused.

I'm sticking with the new measurements. I just have to remember that I shouldn't get

so upset if it's above 140 just a bit or under 90. In a dream world, my AM would be

under 100, but not much, and after meals it would be 120 to 130. Dreamer...

Thanks for your help.
