First of all, I'm so glad I found this board.
My blood test results were read to me over the phone on Mon. Yesterday the dr put me on Actos and exercise. I see a dietician on Monday to learn how to check bs and to eat anew. I'm glad I bought a treadmill last year.
My fast bs sugar was 157. Two hours after eating was 196. My hemoglobin was 7.3%. Doc said it's a mild case, but something we need to get under control. D. runs in my family (and in my husband's family).
I was really happy to see the recipe section here. I'm also being treated for migraines and am on a diet for them too. Wonder what I'll be able to eat???
I'm in a little shock, but also I'm determined to be in as much control as I can be. Time to wear out the treadmill.
Thanks for listening.

Were you having certain symptoms that prompted you to be tested, or was it a routine exam?
I will be attending diabetes education classes in early April for 4 weeks, so I'm looking forward to getting armed with all kinds of information, too.
Will look forward to your posts and hearing how you are doing.
Alison
Thanks, Alison.

HI, and welcome to the board!
Hi and welcome to the board.
Your test A1C looked pretty good and it appears you won't have to do too much to get it down to the recommended numbers. It is recommended that your A1C be 6.5 or less by most experts. So a little weight loss and some exercise plus your medication should get you there pretty soon.
I am glad you found us. I hope you will pull up a chair and join our conversation. We are here to celebrate success, lament failures (and we all have them!) and give gentle shoves when necessary.
A gentle hug,
Mary Frances

Everyone here has been hearing me whine. I've had strange things happen that, of course, wouldn't ever happen to anyone else...like my BS going up to over 400 after steriod injections in my hip bursas.
There are several new people here. We're glad you found us.
Last week, someone suggested a book to me: TYPE 2 DIABETES - THE FIRST YEAR by Gretchen Becker. I haven't ordered it yet from Dalton's, but plan to do so. I became kind of compulsive when I found out about the diabetes. I've collected lots of articles and on-line sites as well as purchasing diabetes and low carb cookbooks.
(((hugs)))
Kathi,
Nice to meet you.
