10 days on insulin--lost 9 pounds

It's me aka born2mothr. I had to change my name. I've been following my new life program now for 10 days. I have to go back in in ten days to get my insulin readjusted. I still am not leveling off in the desired zone. I get there once in a while. I am forcing myself to eat. I'm doing Weight Watcher's like my doctor suggested. Still no appetite, but, I shove it in anyways. LOL! Did any of you lose weight like this when you first started insulin? I am eating properly, just am not enjoying any of it. LOL! I am counting the days till I level off and begin to feel normal again.

Jackie,
I am sorry you aren't feeling like eating or feeling good for that matter. Unless you area thin diabetic, and I doubt that you would be eating the Weight Watcher's meal plan if you are, enjoy your weight loss because insulin is notorious in causing weight gain. Loss of apetite is not a common complaint with insulin either.
I have been on insulin for a month today and am trying real hard not to gain anything. I think I have lost about 3 pounds in the past month and this would make me very happy. I seem to be handling the insulin better also and today it was decided to increase my doseage to 12 units at bedtime. I am on Lantus and in a drug trial. The goal for blood sugar is 120 and my average this week was 122. Almost made it! I hoipe the increase of the 2 units doesn't send me back having the waves of hypoglycemia.
Are you counting your carbs? Are you eating things that you enjoy? With counting carbs you have a liberalization of the meal plan.
I hope you are feeling better soon and that everything levels off.
A gentle hug,

So sorry to
Wow that is great that you came so close to the 120 MF! Kudos! keep me posted on how the increase goes. I am going to be going on isulin as you know this summer in a hopes of being able to TTC in the Fall/Winter.
Do you know what the lowest dose insulin is? where my numbers are low highs (ie I do not go above 200) I am wondering what kind of insulin I will be put on. Also do you know .... if I am on insuling while TTC ... have a baby and want to go off it and back to oral meds....does being on insulin make your diabetes worse?
Thanks MF you are a godsend!

Hi Michelle,
First off being on insulin doesn't make your diabetes worse. As I said to Angie none of the oral meds have been tested on developing fetuses. I can't imagine what mother would sign that permit! SO that is why you can't take your normal meds. But of course there are women who become pregnant while on oral meds and they do just fine. We have to err on the side of caution.
You will need to be on regular insulin and perhaps an intermediate insulin like NPH. I don't think Lantus has been approved for pregnancy yet. It is a little harder to control your blood sugars but of course it is worth the hard work.
So fine tune that body and get ready for this blessed event. We all love being cyber aunties!
Thanks MF - I will let you know how my appt goes with the endocrinologist about all this in June. Till then I am on the oral meds. BSs have been ok. Total turmoil at work which has me totally stressed (but employed!) and that has had my levels a little higher than I would like but am hoping over the next week they settle down along with everything else.
Talk with you soon.
