Hi all

I need to buy one of those "do it at home" Blood Glucose Monitors for my mom. Can someone recommend a good one. She is not covered by insurance so I have to pay out of pocket :(...so if there is a good reasonably priced mnitor out there some one is using it would be a great help

Thanks a lot

Testing strips are the costliest part of home testing. I use a True Track monitor and my strips are about $45 for 100 strips. I have a freestyle monitor I was given for free, but the strips are $72 for 100. I use the true track b/c I have to pay for them out of pocket too. If your mom wants to test on her arm or thigh, then she may want to go with the more expensive monitors that let you test on alternate sites than your fingers. Good luck! MH

Hi, welcome to the board! I use a Accu Chek Active that was running about $19.99 and the strips run about $29.99 for a box of 50 of them. Results within 5 seconds and only need a small amount of blood that can either be dropped onto the testing strip or put on the strip than inserted into the meter. Here is a list of what you can get if you order it online or find a place where you live that carries that meter with all the accessories.
