I am sooooo sorry about not covering all the bases on the survey "when you were diagnosed did the dr... "  http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=iv-bhgendiabete&msg=3023.1&ctx=0   I went back in and tried to add a response when auntydoxz (sorry if mispelled!)  Posted but it wont let me!!!!  Since then there are others as well.  I guess I should have put "other"  BUT I am glad some of you have been sharing your experience in a post when it wasn't covered!!!

I am really curious and I guess it never occured to me about the 'other' possibilities!!!  So, if you have not yet 'voted' please pop on down... and you can whip me with a wet noodle if your choice is not there!!!  BUT feel free to share your story with us!!!  I am finding them extremely interesting and enlightening!!!!

Thanks!!!!

I agree, think the subject gets us talking and HOPEFULLY the newbies that come will realize that even if they didnt get enough information to start with.....with some help from their "friends" us and others....will get enough information to deal with this disease very well!!!

Also hopefully if by some chance some people active in diabetes education see this, this might help encourage clinics etc to provide a little more information!!

Think the most important thing to remember is that although we all have the same condition, this is NOT one of those one size fits all things! Food does NOT effect everyone exactly the same, and it doesnt mean we are bad, wrong, dumb etc. AT least sharing lets us know not everyone has to stay away from rice or pasta. Hopefully we also are learning that although some foods really are bad for us all( a quart of ice cream, a whole pie, a pound of candy)... we do NOT need to all avoid every simple carb there is!!

That said, lots of us have experience in certain areas that can help others. Perfect example is if I remember correctly some comments about the Atkins pastas!!! They were descriptive enough to keep me looking for that gem....a pasta that is low carb, high flavor, great texture and a pleasure to eat without messing up BG levels!!

Oh Cheryl, that is just fine we all do make mistakes every now and again so do not worry about it. Besides we alll know just what to do with adding a post explaining how we were diagnosed, which is not at all that bad to do really. It also allows others to see how everybody is diagnosed differently with no 2 being the same in which from that we learn and grow. So I think you are safe for now from being wiped with a wet noodle. LOL Take care and do have a very great day!
